Apple Fitness Challenge: International Dance Day

Ngl… I do feel prompted to finished limited edition badges on my fitness app if I can.

The day was coming to the end, but I still wanted the badge so I started my work out at about 10:30pm. (Respectfully life be lifing 😅)(Heavy on better late than never)

I def whispered to myself “I don’t want to do this” and almost immediately said “Let me stop playing and start” right after.

I’m trying to change the relationship I have with working out

I think it’s easy to find workouts we may enjoy, but hard to actually get up and do them. I’ve used this “quick positive reaction” method in different areas on my life and surprisingly enough it does help with the almost “naturally” negative things our minds may come up with. Ex: When you find yourself beating yourself up about something, the second you find it to be negative, counteract it with a positive thing about that thing. Very much like practicing gratitude. “I hate my nose… actually I kinda like my nose. And it does exactly what it’s supposed to do” or if of you’re spiritual, connect it to your beliefs “God/the creator/the universe/whoever or whatever you believe in gave me this nose. It is uniquely picked for me”. And girrrrrlll don’t think this is about me … cuz I love my nose 💕🤣 truth is… this take practice (you might not even know you’re seeing these negative things most times it’s intentional) and a lil shadow work on why you say these negative things(a different chapter for a different day)

The workout:

⭐️Overall rating: 4.7/5: Fun and Beginner Friendly..

Docking minor points for music playlist. These aren’t the songs I would typically dance to but they were upbeat and fun!

Loved the trainer. I don’t do much dance workouts on the app I rather vibe out in my room lol. But I love that the trainer reminds you it’s okay to make mistakes and add your own expression.

Do you use the Apple fitness app?

What’s your favorite “fun” workout? - I’m currently obsessed with kickboxing 😍😍

... Read moreHey fellow fitness enthusiasts! Building on my experience with the International Dance Day Challenge, I wanted to share a few more tips and insights, especially if you're curious about how Apple Fitness+ dance workouts (and challenges!) really work. First off, if you're looking to join future challenges like the 'International Dance Day Challenge 2024' (which, by the way, required completing a 20-minute dance workout to earn that cool badge!), keep an eye on the 'Awards' section in your Fitness app. Apple often announces these limited-time badges there, and sometimes they'll pop up directly on the Apple Fitness+ tab. It's super motivating to chase those unique 'earned hexagonal badge' achievements! These challenges are a fantastic way to keep your fitness routine fresh and push yourself a little further. During an Apple Fitness+ dance workout, your Apple Watch is your best friend. While you're busting moves with energetic trainers like LaShawn, your Apple Watch dance workout screen will typically show key metrics: your elapsed time, current heart rate, and active calories burned. I find watching my heart rate during a 'Dance with LaShawn' session helps me gauge my effort and ensures I'm pushing myself enough to hit those fitness goals, especially when I'm aiming for that 20-minute mark to complete a challenge. Seeing those numbers climb and those activity rings close is incredibly satisfying and a huge motivator! After the session, you get that detailed workout summary screen showing total time (like my 20:52!), average heart rate (mine was 142BPM!), and all the calories burned. It's a great way to track progress and see how much you accomplished. For anyone new to Apple Fitness+ dance workouts or thinking about trying an 'apple fitness dance' session, don't be intimidated. I love that the trainers always encourage you to move at your own pace and add your own flair. It’s not about perfect choreography; it’s about moving your body, enjoying the music, and having fun. If the music isn't quite your jam – as I sometimes feel – remember the goal is movement and feeling good. The upbeat energy of the trainers usually makes up for any playlist preferences! They make it super beginner-friendly, and you can always modify moves to suit your level. And speaking of motivation, sometimes it's really hard to get started, even for a fun 'apple dance challenge'. That late-night workout I did for International Dance Day is proof! My trick? Just press play. Tell yourself it's just for five minutes. Often, once the music starts and the trainer gets going, you'll find yourself finishing the whole session. It's all about building that habit and overcoming that initial inertia. Plus, knowing there's a cool 'earned hexagonal badge' waiting for you at the end of an 'International Dance Day Challenge' is a powerful incentive too. Remember, consistency beats intensity, and every dance step counts towards a healthier, happier you!
