Missing Friends
It’s strange how you don’t even notice it happening… no argument, no ending… just distance. And one day you realize you don’t have the same people anymore.
Many of us go through phases in life where friendships gradually fade without a clear reason or dramatic end. It often starts so quietly that you don't notice at first—no arguments, no falling out—just an increasing distance that finally makes you realize your social circle has changed. From my personal experience, this slow drift can be painful in a way that sharp conflicts are not. It’s not the loss of friendship through drama but the silent feeling of no longer being part of each other's lives. The painful part isn’t necessarily missing the friends themselves, but missing the connection and comfort they provided. I once wished to call a friend just to talk about nothing, the kind of conversations that don’t carry weight but make you feel seen. That simple wish highlights how valuable those small moments are. To cope, I found it helpful to cherish the memories but also make space for new relationships and experiences that align with who I am now. Accepting that people grow in different directions allows us to honor what we had without holding onto what can’t be. If you feel this happening to you, consider reaching out to those you miss. A simple message or call might rekindle a bond or provide closure. And if not, allow yourself to grieve in your own way—because the end of a friendship, even a quiet one, deserves acknowledgement and care.
