If you are looking for a cool, safe, relaxed and fun place to travel in 2025, I recommend San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. A small town full of life on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, just under an hour from the closest border crossing to Costa Rica.
I visit this beautiful place at least once a year.
There is so much natural beauty all around it, beaches, volcanoes near by, natural lakes and rivers, wildlife, amazing tropical weather.
and plenty of paces to hangout at night. restaurants, bars, nightclubs.

2: On the way to San Juan stop at, Laguna de Apoyo.
The Apoyo Lagoon Natural Reserve protects a volcanic lake occupying the caldera of an extinct volcano. It covers a tropical dry forest ecosystem with a flora covering over 500 species of plants and tropical dry trees. The fauna consists of mammals such as squirrels, opossums and howler monkeys, over 200 species of birds, and more than 200 species of butterflies.

Ometepe is an island formed by two volcanoes rising out of Lake Nicaragua, located in the Rivas Department of the Republic of Nicaragua. Its name derives from the Nahuatl words ome (two) and tepetl (mountain), meaning "two mountains". It is the largest island in Lake Nicaragua.
Ometepe Island has achieved fame for several compelling reasons, with its breathtaking natural landscapes topping the list. Comprised of two majestic volcanoes, Concepción and Maderas, this island provides a picturesque backdrop that beckons adventurers and nature enthusiasts. Hiking to the summits of these volcanoes promises unparalleled panoramic views of the island's lush terrain and beyond.

It’s moments like these, sipping coffee on a balcony overlooking such natural splendor, that remind me why I keep coming back. One of the absolute must-visits for me is *Laguna de Apoyo*. This serene volcanic lake offers a completely different scenic experience. Swimming in its warm, clear waters, surrounded by a verdant caldera, felt like stepping into a hidden paradise. I loved just floating there, gazing at the surrounding forests and often spotting playful howler monkeys in the trees – it’s a perfect spot for photography and relaxation. The rich biodiversity here, from colorful butterflies to unique plant species, makes it a true natural gem. Then there's Ometepe Island, a place that genuinely feels mystical with its two majestic *volcanoes*, Concepción and Maderas, rising dramatically from Lake Nicaragua. Renting a quad bike to explore the island was an adventure in itself, allowing me to discover hidden waterfalls, small villages, and countless viewpoints that offered unparalleled perspectives of the volcanoes and the expansive lake. Even if you don't hike to the summit, the lower trails provide incredible close-up encounters with the island's unique flora and fauna. And let's talk about the *sunsets*! San Juan del Sur delivers some of the most spectacular sunsets I’ve ever witnessed over the *Pacific Ocean*. Whether you're watching from a beachfront restaurant or simply sitting on the sand, the sky transforms into a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples. It's a daily ritual that never gets old and is a highlight of the coastal scenery. For those seeking a thrill with their views, I highly recommend ziplining through the jungle canopy. It's an exhilarating way to see the lush tropical forests from a different perspective, often with glimpses of the ocean in the distance. And of course, the surfing along Nicaragua's Pacific coast is world-class. Even as a beginner, taking a lesson allowed me to appreciate the power and beauty of the waves up close, truly immersing myself in the coastal environment. From the tranquil waters of a volcanic lake to the dramatic peaks of active volcanoes and the endless horizon of the Pacific, Nicaragua's scenery offers so much. My biggest tip for anyone planning a visit is to embrace the variety and allow yourself to be surprised by the sheer natural beauty at every turn. You won't be disappointed!
