“That’s just how I am”

I don’t accept “that’s just how I am” and you shouldn’t either. That’s them announcing they have no intentions on working on self development or improving themselves. ‘That’s just how I am’ isn’t self-awareness—it’s resistance to growth. And we don’t accept that anymore. #expandyourself #Lemon8Diary #GrowWithLemon8 #healing #embracevulnerability

... Read moreIn my personal journey toward self-improvement, I've encountered many people who use the phrase 'That's just how I am' as a way to dismiss feedback or avoid change. At first, I thought it was just a harmless expression of personality, but over time I realized it often reflects a deeper resistance to growth. When someone says 'That's just how I am,' it can feel like they're closing the door on evolving into a better version of themselves. I've learned that true self-awareness means recognizing our flaws and actively working to improve them, rather than accepting them as permanent traits. This mindset can prevent us from learning new skills, healing from past wounds, or even improving our relationships. I also noticed that constantly explaining or trying to convince someone who uses this phrase can be exhausting. It’s important to recognize when someone is not open to change and to focus on our own growth instead. Embracing vulnerability, as others have shared under the #embracevulnerability tag, has helped me see that growth often requires us to be uncomfortable and to challenge our own excuses. From my experience, saying 'That's just how I am' can serve as a shield against evolving. But choosing to expand yourself, to grow with communities like #GrowWithLemon8 or journaling with #Lemon8Diary, has helped me break out of this mindset. It’s about consciously deciding to evolve for a better, healthier, and more fulfilling life. Change is hard, but it's worth it, especially when it leads to healing and self-discovery.
