Dealing with loss….
Hey,
This isn’t normal for me to post at all but, I’m needing some advice on losing someone close to you in a car accident. Backstory..— August 13th I get home from work and my husband is on the phone with me till I got home.. he hangs up and I get a news article about a hit and run with a death involved. I didn’t think much of it but something told me to call my grandpa, I have life 360 with my mom and husband (due to their occupations) and I saw my mom was at his house so, I call her. She answered and everything was ”fine”. So I just went on with mindless scrolling on Facebook. My husband comes inside and tells me “Papa has been in an accident….. he didn’t make it..” my jaw hit the floor. WHAT?!? my papa just turned 65 he was heathy he was active he was perfect! I immediately called my mom back and the first words out of my mouth “explain” she said “I can’t” I tell her I’m on the way. 30 minutes later we get there. The road is closed so we parked at an abandoned house. I’m greeted by flashing lights and silence… my cousin comes up with a hug and I ask how do we get to his house. We cut through the back yard of this house to the first street of the neighborhood. I hear don’t look back. Please. I glance back and it’s his truck. I immediately turn back and continue walking up this road that felt like it was never ending. I get to his house my granny balling her eyes out around everybody else crying. Weeping and hugs fill the yard and house. We have a big family so something like this hit the family hard. After I get my vision back from everything being taken in at once I go to my mom hug her and she tells me the got him. Thank God! He was found within 5 minutes of the accident. I was told papa was turning right to come home after doing some things at my great grandparents house. They have passed but the family still keeps the house and land up. He was coming home for the evening. The accident happened around 5:30. We didn’t leave his house till midnight. I have so many questions so so many. I guess my main question right now is, what do you do in this situation? I’m a Christian, I pray pray pray. I need something to do to keep my mind busy or all I think about is different ways this accident happened.
Losing a loved one unexpectedly can evoke overwhelming emotions, making the grieving process particularly challenging. It's essential to allow yourself to feel the pain and sadness that comes with such a loss. Creating a support network of friends and family can be invaluable; sharing your feelings can lighten the emotional burden you bear. Engage in activities that honor your loved one’s memory, such as creating a scrapbook or holding a memorial gathering. This can facilitate healing, allowing you to celebrate their life while processing your grief. Grief manifests differently for everyone; some may feel a rush of anger or guilt, while others might struggle with denial or confusion. It's vital to be patient with yourself, recognizing that these feelings are part of the healing process. Additionally, consider seeking professional help if your grief feels unbearable or prolonged. Grief counseling or support groups can provide you with coping strategies and help you connect with others who share similar experiences. Furthermore, engaging in daily routines and hobbies can provide a semblance of normalcy and distraction. Activities like journaling, painting, or participating in community service can help channel your feelings into something constructive. Remember, it's okay to seek moments of joy, even when you're grieving; allowing yourself to smile or laugh should not make you feel guilty. Spiritual practices, such as prayer or meditation, can also offer comfort and guidance during these distressing times. Finding a supportive community, whether through faith or shared experiences, can enhance your sense of belonging and help you navigate the complexities of grief. Remember that healing is a journey with its own timeline, and it's okay to take things one day at a time.
