So after applying TWICE to radiology…

After getting denied twice for the radiology program, I didn’t give up. 💪🏽 I kept pushing, kept applying, and now I can finally say… I’m officially accepted into the Respiratory Therapy program! 🫁🎉

This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s proof that rejection doesn’t mean the end, it just means redirection. 🚦 I’ll be graduating in September 2026📚✨

Sometimes what feels like a setback is really just setting you up for something even better. 🙌🏽

2025/9/10 Edited to

... Read moreGetting into a respiratory therapy program was a huge milestone for me, especially after facing rejections from other paths. Now that I'm officially a respiratory therapy student, the real adventure begins – and a big part of that is diving into clinicals! I know many of you are curious about what it's truly like, so I wanted to share my perspective. My program, much like what’s outlined in our 'Respiratory Therapy Student Clinical Handbook,' really emphasizes hands-on learning. Clinicals are where everything you learn in lectures and labs finally clicks into place. It's not just about understanding theories of lung function or ventilator settings; it's about applying them to real patients in a hospital or clinic setting. One day, you might be assisting with intubations in an emergency room, the next you're managing complex ventilator settings in the ICU, or helping patients with chronic lung conditions learn breathing exercises. It’s definitely challenging. There are long hours, and you’re constantly pushed to think critically and make quick decisions. There are moments of uncertainty, and you'll encounter situations that test your emotional resilience. Learning to navigate these high-pressure environments, while still absorbing new information, is a steep but incredibly rewarding curve. I remember feeling so nervous before my first clinical rotation, checking and re-checking my notes, but my preceptor was amazing and really helped me build confidence. But with these challenges come incredible rewards. There’s nothing quite like seeing a patient’s breathing improve because of the care you’ve provided, or helping a family understand what’s happening with their loved one. You get to be a crucial part of a healthcare team, working alongside doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals. It's a constant learning process, and every shift brings new insights. Reading through the 'Respiratory Therapy Student Clinical Handbook 2023-2025' before each rotation has been a lifesaver, helping me anticipate what to expect and what skills I need to refresh. For anyone aspiring to be a respiratory therapist, my advice is to embrace every clinical opportunity with an open mind. Ask questions, even if you think they’re silly. Be proactive in seeking out learning experiences. And most importantly, take care of yourself mentally and physically – clinicals can be exhausting! It's a demanding field, but if you're passionate about helping people breathe easier, then being a respiratory therapy student, especially in those clinical environments, is an incredibly fulfilling path. I can't wait to see what the rest of my journey holds, and to eventually become a fully qualified RT! It's truly setting me up for something better.
