I LOVE: Cheerleading
I hope I’m not too weird
Hey everyone! I wanted to open up a bit more about what cheerleading truly means to me, especially as someone who's autistic. When I first started, I honestly felt a little bit like I might be 'too weird' for it, but I quickly learned that the cheer world is so much more accepting and diverse than I ever imagined. It's not just about the stunts and the cheers; it's about finding your tribe and pushing your own limits, even when things feel overwhelming. For me, cheerleading has been an incredible way to navigate social situations. Sometimes, social cues can be tricky, but on the mat, there's a clear structure, a shared goal, and an amazing energy. It’s helped me build confidence, not just in my athletic abilities, but also in connecting with people. I've found some of the most supportive friends through cheer, and it's taught me so much about teamwork and resilience. The sensory aspect of cheerleading – the music, the crowd, the physical contact – can be intense, but surprisingly, I find a lot of comfort in the predictable routines and the powerful, synchronized movements. It’s a way to channel energy and focus, and the feeling of nailing a stunt or a pyramid with your team is unmatched. It’s a symphony of controlled chaos, and I thrive in it. Beyond the practices and competitions, I love expressing my personality, and that’s where my 'COLLEGE CHIC' vibe comes in. It’s all about blending comfort with style, whether I’m heading to a study group or just chilling with my beloved kitties. My furry friends are my ultimate stress relief after a long practice or a tough exam – they’re always there for cuddles and purrs! It’s this balance of intense physical activity, academic life, and cozy downtime that really makes my life feel full. My 'COLLEGE CHIC' style also reflects this duality – practical yet expressive. Think cozy oversized sweaters for studying, but always with a touch of sparkle or a unique accessory that shows off my personality. It's about being comfortable in my own skin, whether I'm in my cheer uniform, a casual beach outfit, or dressed up for a campus event. One of my biggest goals has always been to connect with others who share my passions, and cheerleading has been the perfect avenue. It's about finding those genuine connections, whether it's through shared love for the sport, our 'COLLEGE CHIC' aesthetic, or just bonding over silly things. If you're out there feeling a little different or wondering if you'll fit in, I'm here to say: embrace what makes you unique! There's a place for everyone, and sometimes, you just have to create your own space. And for anyone thinking about cheerleading, don't let any preconceived notions stop you. It builds incredible stamina, strength, and coordination. But more than that, it builds character. You learn to trust your teammates implicitly, to communicate effectively under pressure, and to pick yourself up after a fall, both literally and figuratively. These are skills that transcend the mat and help in every aspect of life, especially in navigating college and adult friendships. So, if you’re a fellow cheerleader, an autistic individual exploring new hobbies, or just someone looking for a community, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s share our unique journeys and cheer each other on! Remember, being 'different' is what makes us truly shine.
