I've been meaning to dive deeper into the world of 'Draw This In Your Style' challenges, and getting to participate in @lord_gris's recent DTIYS, especially the #CloudRedraw, was such a fantastic experience! For anyone new to the concept, a DTIYS is an amazing way for artists to celebrate another creator's work while also pushing their own artistic boundaries. You take an original piece of art by another artist and redraw it in your unique style, keeping the core elements intact but infusing it with your personal flair. It's not about copying, but interpreting! For this particular challenge, I was really captivated by the original character's design. The blue hair, adorned with delicate white clouds, immediately caught my eye. It gave the character such a dreamy, ethereal quality. I also loved the detail of the small bird sitting on her head and the subtle elegance of her light blue off-shoulder top and black choker. Recreating her pensive expression was a fun challenge – trying to capture that mood while still making it feel like my own drawing. It truly makes you think about how different elements contribute to the overall feeling of a piece. When I started my digital drawing, my main goal was to retain the essence of Lord Gris's character, particularly the cloud elements in the hair which are central to the #CloudRedraw theme. I focused on experimenting with different digital coloring techniques to give the clouds a soft, almost glowing effect. Deciding on the color palette for the background was also key to making the character stand out, ensuring her blue hair and top popped against it. I often find that DTIYS challenges really help me practice specific aspects of my digital art, whether it's rendering textures like fabric or skin, or achieving a certain lighting effect. Don't be afraid to try new brushes or blend modes – that's often where the magic happens in digital art! Participating in these challenges isn't just about creating a new piece; it's also about connecting with the art community. It's inspiring to see how other artists interpret the same character, and it’s a wonderful way to discover new styles and techniques. If you're an artist looking for a fun way to improve your skills, find inspiration, or just engage with other creators, I highly recommend looking for a 'draw this in your style' challenge! A great tip is to choose a DTIYS from an artist whose work you genuinely admire, as that passion will fuel your own creative process. Also, pay attention to the details in the original piece, like the specific type of bird or the accessories, and think about how you can incorporate or reimagine them in your style. Sharing your progress or process can also be a rewarding part of the experience, fostering interaction and feedback. This #CloudRedraw was definitely a highlight for me, and I encourage everyone to give it a try if you're looking for a creative boost!
