i asked my girlfriend to make dak-galbi

Dak-galbi (Korean spicy stir-fried chicken) has been appearing in my feed so I decided to ask my girlfriend to try and make it

How she made it:

• Made the sauce with gochujang, oyster sauce, soy sauce, mirin, gochugaru, garlic, and powdered sugar (cause we don’t have rice syrup 😅)

• Marinate boneless chicken thigh into the sauce for 15 mins

• Stir-fry some onions and then pan-grill the chicken

• Cut the chicken into bite sizes using scissors

• Put in rice cake, green onion, and mozzarella cheese

• Wait until the the rice cake softens* and enjoy!

*you can soak the rice cake in water first to reduce the cooking time, we needed to wait for quite some time cause we did not know it would take that long

... Read moreIf you're a fan of spicy Korean cuisine like we are, making Dak-galbi at home can be a rewarding experience. One tip we discovered is soaking the rice cakes in water beforehand to significantly reduce cooking time, which helps them soften faster in the pan. We also found that using boneless chicken thighs works best for tender, juicy bites. For the sauce, a combination of gochujang, oyster sauce, soy sauce, mirin, gochugaru, garlic, and a pinch of powdered sugar creates a balanced flavor even if you don't have traditional rice syrup on hand. Stir-frying the onions before adding chicken adds a nice sweetness and depth to the dish. Pan-grilling the marinated chicken until juicy and slightly charred enhances the taste, and cutting it into bite-sized pieces with scissors makes it easy to enjoy. Adding mozzarella cheese and green onions at the end gives a creamy and fresh contrast to the spicy, savory chicken. Finally, cooking this meal on a hot plate or skillet not only cooks the ingredients evenly but keeps everything warm and sizzling while you eat. This experience made me appreciate the rich flavors of Korean street food and showed how adaptable these recipes can be for home cooking. Definitely a must-try for spice lovers seeking a fun cooking project!
