Happy 🖐🏾 full to my Gigi

It’s funny how fast time flies when you’re watching your grandchildren grow! Just yesterday, it feels like, my little grandson was a baby, and now he’s turning five! This age is just magical – they’re full of curiosity, energy, and starting to develop their own little personalities. As a Gigi, celebrating these milestones is one of my greatest joys, and it always gets me thinking about how to make their day extra special, especially when it falls on a big game day like my grandson’s. For a five-year-old, a birthday isn't just a date; it's an event! While big parties are fun, sometimes the most memorable celebrations are the ones filled with simple, heartfelt moments. We often try to incorporate his current obsessions, and since it’s game day, maybe a mini 'sports fan' theme could be fun. Think about decorating with team colors, serving finger foods that resemble stadium snacks (mini hot dogs, fruit skewers), or even having a little backyard "game" where everyone can participate, perhaps with soft balls or beanbags. The key is making them feel like the star of the show. When it comes to gifts, I always try to find things that spark his imagination or encourage him to learn and explore. At five, they’re often ready for more complex building sets like LEGOs, or perhaps science kits designed for young children that introduce basic concepts through fun experiments. Books are always a winner in our family; finding a series he loves or a beautifully illustrated picture book can open up whole new worlds. And of course, anything that gets him outdoors and moving – a new scooter, a child-friendly sports set, or even just some cool chalk for drawing on the driveway – is fantastic. I’m a big believer in experiences too; a trip to the local children’s museum, an aquarium, or even a special movie outing can create memories that last much longer than any toy. Beyond the birthday itself, I cherish every moment I get to spend with my grandson. These years are so precious for building that unique grandparent-grandchild bond. We love baking cookies together (even if it gets a little messy!), reading his favorite stories at bedtime, or just going for walks in the park and collecting interesting leaves or rocks. Sometimes, it’s just sitting and watching his favorite show or playing a simple board game. These aren't grand gestures, but they are the moments he'll remember – the times we spent together, laughing and learning. Being a Gigi means showering them with love, offering a listening ear, and being a safe, fun space for them. Each year brings new adventures and new ways to connect. My biggest wish for him, and for all my grandchildren, is simply for them to have a fantastic day, every day, filled with joy, laughter, and the knowledge that they are deeply loved.
