I wore revealing clothes for all the wrong reasons—and it took me a long time to admit it.🫣

Someone recently asked me what “modesty” means to me. I paused for a moment, realizing this was a question I’d been wrestling with myself.

Lately, I’ve been navigating this area of my life, searching for a balance between expressing myself confidently and authentically while still glorifying God with my body. It’s meant constantly checking my motives, asking myself why I wear what I wear, and who I’m doing it for.

In the past, I had fully embraced the idea of “body positivity”—a term/movement that, let’s be honest, is very much rooted in secular values (but that’s a discussion for another day). During my modeling career and with my previous fashion choices, I put myself out there in every sense of the word. I wore all kinds of revealing clothes to make a statement, to prove that plus-size women could wear them too, and to feel good about myself. At the time, I genuinely believed I looked good in anything, which was a big step for someone who had spent years feeling insecure about their body type.

But now, I find myself in a season of unlearning and rediscovering my personal style. I’ve realized that while how we present ourselves does matter, it’s what’s in our hearts that matters most.

Let’s be clear—I’m not about to be out here looking soulful, or wearing a trash bag 😂. But I’m taking my time, being patient with myself as I figure out what feels truly authentic to me in this season.

If you find yourself in this same place, remember that sanctification a journey. Enjoy it with grace and a lot of self-reflection, & continue to trust God through it all. 🤍

... Read moreIt's so interesting to see how many of us grapple with what modesty truly means in our daily lives. For me, like the original post shared, there was a time I wore revealing clothes for reasons that didn't truly serve my heart or my values. But what does 'modesty' even mean in today's fast-paced, trend-driven world? When I first considered the 'modest meaning in clothing,' I used to think of strict, outdated rules. However, I've come to understand that for many, it's deeply personal and rooted in humility, self-respect, and respecting those around you. It's not just about how much skin you show, but about the intention behind what you wear. It’s a way of dressing that doesn’t solely rely on physical allure, allowing your character and inner self to shine through instead. This perspective often aligns with various spiritual practices, not just a specific faith, where the focus shifts from external validation to internal virtue. And then there’s the question: 'why do women wear revealing clothes in public?' It's a question I've pondered a lot, especially reflecting on my own past. Sometimes it's about confidence, reclaiming personal agency, or simply following fashion trends. Other times, as the original post touched on, it can be about seeking validation, making a statement, or even a form of self-expression. Society often sends us mixed messages, celebrating 'body positivity' while subtly pressuring us to look a certain way. It’s a complex dance between personal freedom and external expectations. Navigating this 'modesty journey' isn't a one-size-fits-all path. It’s about asking yourself: 'Why am I choosing this outfit today?' and 'Who am I truly dressing for?' For me, it's been a profound process of unlearning what media and society taught me and relearning what truly honors my evolving values. It's not about suddenly wearing a 'trash bag,' as the original post humorously put it, but about making intentional choices. Maybe it's about trying new silhouettes, experimenting with layering, or finding brands that align with your evolving sense of self. It’s about extending grace to yourself through self-reflection, understanding that personal growth is truly a journey. Like the initial thought, 'I wore revealing clothes for all the wrong reasons,' it's recognizing those underlying motivations that jumpstarts a real change in how we present ourselves to the world. What feels authentic and empowering to you right now?
