Homemade Jam…Loading
Anybody else love learning how to make new things?
Recently I’ve been trying my hand at jam. My Mom makes amazing jam every summer and my kids are always begging for it, so I figured I should learn how to make it myself 🍓🫐🍒
6 cups of fruit
2 cups sugar or sweetener
The juice of one lemon
Making homemade jam is easier than many think, especially with a simple 3-ingredient recipe. Using fresh, ripe fruit ensures your jam bursts with natural sweetness and flavor. When choosing your fruit, berries like strawberries, blueberries, or cherries work wonderfully because they naturally have the right texture and pectin content to thicken into jam. Sugar is essential not only for sweetness but also for preservation. You can use regular sugar, but I sometimes substitute part of it with natural sweeteners like honey or agave for a different flavor and slightly healthier option. Don't forget the lemon juice — it adds a bright taste and helps the jam set by activating the fruit’s natural pectin. To make your jam, simply combine six cups of prepared fruit, two cups of sugar or sweetener, and the juice of one lemon in a pot. Bring to a boil, stirring often, and reduce until the mixture thickens — usually about 20 to 30 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when it coats a spoon and wrinkles slightly when spread on a cold plate. I love making this jam in the summer when fruit is abundant and letting it cool in sterilized jars to enjoy throughout the year. My kids especially love this homemade treat on toast or added to yogurt. It’s a rewarding process to make your own preserves and perfect for experimenting with different fruit combinations based on what’s fresh in season.
