Recently, we found a black and white dog who had some puppies. We never found the puppies. I made a previous post about it.
A week later, after making that post, we found more puppies. Two little dogs was walking the gravel road I live on. They was in a field and I know they aren’t anyone’s dogs.
They’re so playful. They are also extremely clumsy. They love their dog food we feed them and the toys we gave them. They don’t like loud noises or sudden noises.
Hopefully we can find these babies a home or we will keep them with us. 💕
... Read moreIt all started quite unexpectedly, just as the image text on one of my photos boldly states: 'WE FOUND PUPPIES'! And not just any puppies, but these two little bundles of joy who completely stole our hearts. When we first saw them wandering on the gravel road, small and a bit bewildered, my heart just melted. They were clearly abandoned, making this new discovery even more poignant after our previous search.
Taking in abandoned puppies, even temporarily, is a big responsibility, but incredibly rewarding. From my experience, the first few days are all about making them feel safe and loved. These little ones were initially quite skittish, especially around loud noises, common for neglected animals. We made sure to create a quiet, cozy space for them, away from sudden sounds. Soft blankets, fresh water, and a consistent feeding schedule with good quality puppy food were our top priorities, helping them feel secure and nourished. Seeing them slowly come out of their shell, tails starting to wag, is truly heartwarming.
One of the biggest challenges, and frankly, one of the most adorable, was their extreme clumsiness! This meant keeping a very close eye on them to prevent tumbles. We introduced toys slowly, starting with softer chew toys, and it was amazing to see them learn to play and explore. Their playful antics quickly brought so much laughter into our home. It truly highlights how resilient and eager to love these little creatures are, even after a tough start.
If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, discovering puppies in need, here’s what I've learned from my own journey that might help you help them find their forever families:
Prioritize Safety First: Ensure the area is safe for both you and the puppies. Check them carefully for any visible injuries.
Provide Immediate Basic Care: Offer clean water and a small amount of puppy-specific food.
Seek Veterinary Attention Promptly: A vet check-up, deworming, and initial vaccinations are crucial for their health and adoptability.
Network for Rehoming: Contact local animal shelters, reputable rescue organizations, and use social media (like Lemon8!) to share their heartwarming story and adorable photos. A compelling narrative increases their chances of finding a home.
Offer a Temporary Foster Home: If you can foster, provide a stable, loving, and enriching environment. Early socialization is key for puppies.
Our ultimate goal is to find these sweet pups their forever families – a place where they can be truly 'reunited with owners' who will cherish them for life. Every wagging tail and sloppy puppy kiss reminds me why this journey is so important. It's about giving them a second chance at a happy, healthy life. And if we can't find the perfect match, they'll always have a loving home right here with us. There's nothing quite like the joy of seeing an abandoned pup transform into a confident, loving companion.
