Twisted Book Review🖤📖

4⭐️/5:

Twisted was such an addictive read! Emily McIntire has a way of taking familiar fairytale ideas and turning them into something dark, sexy, and surprisingly emotional. I really liked how this story explored power, control, and vulnerability without feeling like a typical romance. The characters were layered and flawed in a way that made them feel real, even when they were making questionable choices.

The chemistry between the main characters was off the charts — intense, messy, and impossible to look away from. McIntire’s writing is smooth and easy to get lost in, and I ended up finishing this one faster than I expected.

If I had to nitpick, I’d say a few scenes felt a little rushed, and I wanted just a bit more depth to some of the side characters. But overall, it was a gripping, emotional, and darkly romantic story that stuck with me after I finished.

Definitely a solid addition to the Never After series — dark, passionate, and beautifully written in that signature McIntire style.

... Read moreI've seen so many people curious about 'Twisted' by Emily McIntire, especially after seeing that striking cover! From my own bookshelf, I can tell you that the dark cover with its shattered diamond design perfectly sets the tone for what's inside – a truly edgy and captivating read. It’s not just a pretty face; that cover hints at the broken, beautiful, and sometimes dangerous themes Emily McIntire expertly weaves into her stories, particularly in this 'Never After Novel'. The visual impact alone promises a story that deviates from the conventional, and in my opinion, it absolutely delivers on that promise. One of the most frequent questions I hear about 'Twisted' is 'what fairytale is it based on?' Well, if you’re a fan of retellings, you’ll be thrilled to know this book gives a deliciously dark twist to Peter Pan and Captain Hook’s story. Forget the innocent boy who never grew up; in this world, things are much grittier and morally ambiguous. Emily McIntire takes the core elements – the lost boys, Neverland, and the eternal conflict – and reimagines them through a mature, intense lens, creating a narrative that is both fresh and deeply rooted in a classic tale. This isn't your childhood bedtime story, and that's precisely what makes it so compelling for adult readers seeking something darker. Speaking of compelling, let's talk about the 'Twisted' tropes! If you’re into dark romance, this book delivers on all fronts. You can expect a fantastic enemies-to-lovers dynamic, which for me, was absolutely sizzling and incredibly well-developed. There's also a strong 'villain gets the girl' vibe – and honestly, who doesn't love a morally grey character getting their redemption (or at least their leading lady)? The power imbalances, forced proximity, and emotional manipulation are explored with surprising depth, making the characters feel incredibly real and complex, even when you question their choices and their methods. It’s definitely not a straightforward romance, but that's what makes it so unique and memorable. I found myself constantly debating the characters' motivations, which is a sign of truly engaging storytelling. Being part of the 'Never After' series, 'Twisted' fits right in with its siblings. Each book in the series takes a different classic fairytale and turns it on its head, offering a standalone dark romance inspired by the original. This means you don't necessarily need to read them in order, but knowing the series' premise helps appreciate the unique takes. What I particularly loved about 'Twisted: A Never After Novel' was how it delved into themes of control and vulnerability. It wasn’t just about the physical chemistry, which was off the charts, but also the psychological push and pull that kept me hooked from beginning to end. The way McIntire crafts her flawed characters, making them both infuriating and endearing, is a true skill. If you’re looking for a book that will completely engross you and leave you thinking long after you've turned the last page, 'Twisted' is definitely one to pick up. The exploration of classic tropes through a modern, dark lens is truly a masterpiece in its own right, and a solid 4-star read in my experience.
