Okay… so The Awakening from The Vampire Diaries series was a bit of a mixed bag for me.
I’m not even gonna lie — overall, it wasn’t great. BUT I also can’t sit here and say I didn’t have a good time reading it, because I definitely did. It’s one of those books where you’re like “this is kinda messy…” but you keep turning the pages anyway.
I really think timing matters with this one. If I had picked this up as a teenager, I just know I would’ve eaten it up and given it 5 stars without hesitation. It has that dramatic, angsty, slightly chaotic energy that younger me would’ve loved. But reading it now… yeah, it just didn’t hit the same.
The writing style threw me off a bit too. You can definitely tell it was published in the 90s. It’s different from what I’m used to — sometimes it felt super easy to read, and other times I had to pause and be like “wait… what just happened?” So it kind of goes back and forth between flowing nicely and being a little confusing.
All in all, not the best book, but not a terrible experience either. I had fun, I was entertained, and honestly… that still counts for something::
