Day 2 of Elfie and Elvie's Shenanigans (Late Post)

Okay, fellow parents, Elfie and Elvie are at it again! Waking up to find them swinging mischievously from the wooden refrigerator door, with that cheeky note saying, 'Hehehe... I'm back! And I brought a friend too. -Elvie and Elfie,' totally set the tone for our day. It’s the little things like this that make the Elf on the Shelf tradition so magical, even if it means remembering to move them after the kids are asleep! This year, I've been trying to come up with new and creative ideas to keep my kids guessing. Elfie and Elvie really outdid themselves by making a grand entrance on the fridge. It got me thinking about all the fun ways you can incorporate simple household items into your elf's nightly adventures. Maybe tomorrow they'll be making 'snow angels' in some flour on the kitchen counter, or having a marshmallow fight! The key is to keep it fresh without making it too much work for you, right? One of my favorite things about having two elves, Elfie and Elvie, is the dynamic they bring. They can play off each other, creating scenes that are twice as fun. For instance, last night, I was relieved they just hung out by the Christmas stockings and didn't actually get into the stocking stuffers. But it gave me an idea! What if they had left a tiny 'receipt' for imaginary purchases they made with the stocking stuffers? Or maybe a note saying they 'inspected' the stockings for Santa? Leaving little notes, like the one Elfie and Elvie had, is always a hit. It adds an extra layer of interaction. You can have them leave silly jokes, hints about Christmas activities, or even a 'nice list' reminder. For the refrigerator scene, they could write a mini grocery list for Santa's treats, or even try to 'eat' some tiny snacks from the fridge! For those just starting with Elf on the Shelf or looking to add a second elf like I did with Elfie and Elvie, my biggest tip is to keep it manageable. Don't feel pressured to have a huge, elaborate scene every single night. Some nights, just moving them to a new spot, maybe peeking out from behind a plant or sitting on a bookshelf, is enough. The excitement is often just in finding them! And if you forget a night (we've all been there!), you can always say they were 'resting up for a big adventure' or that 'Santa called them back for a quick meeting.' Thinking about the note Elfie and Elvie left – 'Hehehe... I'm back! And I brought a friend too.' – it really shows how a simple message can spark so much joy. My kids immediately started wondering what kind of friend Elvie brought and what they'd do next. This kind of interactive element is fantastic. You can even have the elves 'communicate' with your kids by leaving tiny letters or drawings. It really solidifies the idea that these little figures have personalities and are part of the family's holiday story.
