🎁Crocheter knits a Baby Bonet🎁
I made this for my coworkers baby and wanted it to be as wearable as possible.
Since crochet can be very stiff and not stretch I decided to knit it.
1. The swatch: I was using knitting needles that were too big so I made the swatch just in case and the sizing was just fine. Also most of the checking was based on length not how many rows you did.
2. Decreasing Disaster: omg decreasing in the round is hard. Advice to anyone, separate the stitches in three groups but not where the round is joined. (I’ll post a tutorial)
But yeah I decreased too much so it looked like an elf hat 💀
3. The ears
I ran out of yarn T-T so then I was debating between just having one side of the ear or adding another color. At the point I had sewn the ears on, very securely but I hated it.
4. Fixing It
I did a few things. First I cut open the top, because me it was sewn so securely. I was able to undo one but the other was too tight so I had to cut it off.
When I decreased, instead of decreasing every 4 rows I went against the pattern and decreased every 4 rows then every 2 rows and then back to 4. It all depended on how I felt really.
For the ears I made the inside piece grey and sewed them over the hole so it was less noticeable. I fixed the hole as well
5. Overall notes
This was a really fast project. If I hadn’t made the mistake it would have just taken me a day to make it. I’ve been intimidated by working in the round and knitting in general. I found thinking of it the same as I do crochet, if I do A B will happen, I can always undo it and don’t follow the pattern 😂
There are so many things that look better in knit so I’m willing to challenge myself and I’m looking forward to making more knit pieces. 😆
If you’re a knitter, comment what you would have done to fix the pointed hat. And if you’re new to knitting welcome! Its a learning experience for all of us
