Here’s a simple guide if you want to try making the LuLu lemon summer bag as a crocheter.
I found a few patterns but overall the Etsy one is the best in terms of having a solid frame work to customize. Instead of sc to mimic the open work of the Lu Lu Lemon bag you can use the (skipping stones stitch, chevron lace, railway lace, cats eye lace) crochetkim has a stitch guide with free tutorials.
If these listed seem too complicated you can also do a simple [sc ch sc] which will still give the open work look but will also let you be able to follow the YouTube and Etsy pattern.
For the Lettering when you get midways simply mark where you’d like the letters and follow Crochet Cry’s YouTube tutorial and a diagram on Pinterest of “lowers case letters tapestry crochet”.
If your following the YouTube Tutorial your good for the handle but for the Etsy Pattern simply make one handle starting from the right side or left side instead of two from the center.
Let me know what you think! Was this helpful? Was it too complicated? I would love to post more tutorials and or guides so y’all can feel more comfortable in your creativity and customization with your crochet! 😘💞
... Read moreHey fellow crafters! I wanted to chat a bit more about making your very own Lululemon-inspired crochet bag. When I first started looking into this, I noticed some of you might be wondering about the 'lemon' part – just to clarify, we're talking about a stylish bag inspired by the popular Lululemon brand, not literally crocheting a fruit! While crocheting a lemon fruit can be super cute, this guide focuses on that iconic Lululemon-esque tote.
Getting started, choosing the right pattern is absolutely key. The original post mentioned Etsy patterns, and from my own experience, checking for those with 'Great Reviews' and descriptions like 'The Best for Accuracy' (like the dark green one from @vuprojects I spotted) really makes a huge difference. Sometimes investing a few dollars in a solid framework saves so much frustration later on. Even if you find a 'Free Pattern' on YouTube, it's always worth comparing it to a paid one to see if it gives you the structure you need for that perfect, sturdy Lululemon-style shape. Minor modifications can often be made to personalize any pattern you choose.
For yarn, the OCR notes 'USE COTTON YARN,' and I couldn't agree more! Cotton is fantastic for bags because it's durable, holds its shape well, and gives off that lovely natural texture. Plus, it's usually easy to wash, which is a bonus for an everyday tote that might see a lot of use. Don't be afraid to experiment with colors – maybe a classic black, a vibrant summer shade, or even a soft pastel to match your favorite workout gear. The quality of your yarn definitely impacts the final look and feel of your 'Luxury DIY Crochet edition' bag.
One of the best parts about DIY is making it truly *yours*. Beyond the lettering tutorial (which, by the way, the 'Tapestry Crochet' method shown in the 'Tutorial For Lettering' is 'Good for Beginners'!), think about other ways to customize. You could add a simple fabric lining for extra sturdiness and to prevent smaller items from falling out. Or perhaps try different strap lengths – a longer crossbody strap alongside a shorter hand-held one. I even saw a YouTube video titled 'Easy way to crochet your ultimate summer tote bag' with a flower detail – imagine adding a little embellishment like that! The beauty is truly in the details and making it unique.
If you're new to crochet, don't let some of the fancy stitch names scare you. While stitches like skipping stones, chevron lace, or railway lace can give a beautiful openwork look similar to what you'd see on high-end bags, remember the simple sc ch sc option is perfectly valid and still creates that airy, stylish vibe. The goal is to feel comfortable in your creativity and customization, as I always say! There are so many free tutorials online to help you master any stitch you choose, whether you're following a YouTube guide or a Pinterest diagram for specific stitches or letters (like searching for 'LOWER CASE TAPESTRY CROCHET').
Making your own Lululemon-style bag isn't just about saving some money; it's about the satisfaction of creating something unique and tailored to your taste. Imagine carrying a bag that perfectly matches your summer outfits, knowing you made it with your own hands! It’s a wonderful project for both seasoned crocheters and those just starting out. Give it a try, and you might surprise yourself with what you can create!
