Someone dropped this bombshell: 'If you thrive in chaos, it's cause peace makes you uncomfortable.' And honestly, that *explained everything to me*! My mind was blown. 🤯 For years, I just thought I was 'good under pressure.' I'd always be the one jumping into last-minute projects, handling multiple crises at once, and honestly, feeling a strange sense of energy when things were falling apart. But when everything was calm, when there was *peace*, I’d feel restless. Anxious, even. Like something was missing or I was wasting time. This little quote made me realize it wasn't just about being productive in a crisis. It was about an underlying discomfort with stillness. Why would peace make someone uncomfortable? I’ve been doing some deep dives into this, and it’s fascinating. For some, chaos provides a constant distraction from deeper thoughts or emotions they don't want to confront. It’s easier to focus on external turmoil than internal quiet. Others might have grown up in chaotic environments, so it feels like 'home.' Peace, to them, is unfamiliar and therefore unsettling. It’s a learned survival mechanism that becomes a preference. The adrenaline rush can also be addictive – that feeling of being absolutely essential, of saving the day. When that's gone, the quiet can feel like a void. I've also heard that some high-achievers feel like if they're not constantly battling something, they're not being productive enough. The absence of a challenge can feel like a threat to their self-worth. So, they unconsciously create or seek out chaotic situations to maintain that sense of purpose and importance. It's a strange paradox, isn't it? Wanting calm but feeling anxious in the calm. If you've been nodding along to this, you're definitely not alone. Acknowledging this trait has been a huge step for me. It's not about judging yourself, but understanding your patterns. Now, I'm trying to learn how to actively seek out and embrace moments of peace, rather than letting the discomfort push me back into the chaos. It's a journey, but this realization was definitely the first step to finding a healthier balance. So, if you find yourself always drawn to drama, constantly juggling too many things, or feeling an odd emptiness when life is smooth, it might be worth reflecting on this idea. Is the 'thriving in chaos' really serving you, or is it a protective mechanism preventing you from experiencing true calm? I've started practicing mindfulness, even just for a few minutes a day, to get used to the quiet. It’s hard work, retraining your brain to find comfort in the absence of urgency, but it’s so worth it for your mental well-being. It’s about building a new relationship with peace, one where it’s a welcomed friend, not an uncomfortable stranger.
