Gym Breaks Are OKAY!🫶

Is the gym becoming more and more distant lately? Maybe you’re burnt out, sick, or even just losing motivation. Please trust when I say this, but I am in that boat right now, and you are not alone!🫶🏻

For the past two weeks, I have been dealing with sickness related to my chronic illness and also some illnesses that have been going around lately. These illnesses have caused me to miss two weeks worth of the gym. I have felt guilt, shame, and embarrassment about not being able to get back to what I normally do.

But lately, I have been thinking about the “why” factor. Why do I feel so guilty and ashamed that I’m not going to the gym? I’m literally sick in a bed and I’m feeling guilty about not working out. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say this statement, but it just seems so silly, right? Me being sick in a bed with a fever, cough, and barely being able to breathe, yet I’m still worrying about going to the gym.

I am here to tell you today that breaks are OK. If you’re feeling burnt out, take that break. Your brain may need it.

If you’re feeling sick, take a break. Your body is sending you signs that you need one.

If you’re being thrown off routine, take a break. You could always come back when your routine is fixed and solid.

Never feel ashamed for needing rest. Your body and your mind send you signs all the time that this is necessary. Listen to yourself, be kind to yourself, and never doubt yourself.🫶🏻

Breaks Promote Recovery: A well-deserved break can enhance recovery, allowing your muscles to rejuvenate and your mind to recharge. This is crucial for maintaining a long-term fitness journey. 2. Preventing Burnout: Constantly pushing yourself can lead to burnout, making it difficult to return to the gym. Recognizing the signs of fatigue and taking proactive breaks can maintain motivation and enjoyment in your workouts. 3. Addressing Health Concerns: For those with chronic illnesses or health issues, breaks are not just beneficial—they're essential. Listening to your body's signals and respecting its need for rest ensures that you prioritize your overall health. 4. Reevaluating Goals: A break can provide space to reflect on your fitness goals and routines. Use this time to reassess what works for you and what needs change, allowing you to return stronger and more focused.
