This can create sharp cheeks, hollows, and strong jaw tension. The goal is to soften the face by guiding the cheeks inward and upward, not forcing them out.

Many people might not realize it, but when cheekbones push outward too much instead of lifting properly, it causes that sharp, hollowed look often referred to as 'alien face.' This look is associated with not only aesthetic concerns but also with underlying tension in the jaw muscles, specifically the masseter, which can create discomfort. A useful technique I incorporated was gently pressing the cheeks inward and upward during my daily routine, which helped guide the cheekbones into a more natural, lifted position. This method aligns well with facial chiropractic principles and can be quite subtle but effective if practiced consistently. I also found that combining this with exercises that promote correct tongue posture—often called mewing—significantly improved my facial symmetry and reduced the hollow areas near my cheeks. One of the practical tips is to use a wall as resistance by pressing the cheekbones gently against it while inhaling and exhaling slowly. This can build muscle awareness and support the repositioning of the cheekbones without forcing them outward. Over a few weeks, these simple exercises resulted in a softer, more youthful appearance, and helped alleviate some jaw tension. The Koko Face Yoga app is a great tool that offers guided exercises and a mewing detector, which helped me monitor my tongue posture as well. Proper tongue placement on the palate supports the facial structure from within and can amplify the benefits of face yoga techniques. I recommend consistency and patience, as changes happen gradually but are sustainable. Overall, focusing on correct face and tongue posture, combined with targeted exercises, can prevent the alien face look, soften your facial features, and reduce uncomfortable jaw tension. Embracing these techniques can transform facial symmetry, enhance natural beauty, and boost confidence.
