「これはどこ？」って聞かれたら、私は迷わず“多賀城市立図書館”って答えます。多賀城図書館は、いわゆる静かに本を借りる場所…というより、「半日いても飽きない居場所」みたいな空間でした。 まず感動したのが内観。天井が高くて、3階まで吹き抜けになっているので入った瞬間に視界が一気に開けます。木製書棚が並ぶ通路は照明も温かくて、写真で見ても素敵だけど実物はもっと雰囲気があります。海外の歴史ある図書館っぽい空気感があるのに、ガラス張りの外観はモダンで、そのギャップも良いところ。 「多賀城図書館 スタバ」で検索する人が多いのも納得で、1階にスターバックスが入っていて、本棚やいろいろな座席と自然につながっています。私はコーヒー片手に館内を回って、気になる本をパラパラ。あの“桜柄のカップ”みたいに季節のドリンクを選ぶと、ちょっとしたご褒美感もあって休日が整います。 座席はソファ席だけじゃなく、作業しやすいコワーキングっぽいスペースもあるので、読書だけじゃなく勉強やPC作業にも向いています。混み具合によっては席探しが必要なこともあるので、ゆっくりしたい日は時間に余裕を持って行くのがおすすめ。 親子で行くなら児童書スペースがかなり充実しているのが嬉しいポイント。子どもが飽きにくい工夫があって、ちょっと気分転換できるお庭もあるので、長時間でも過ごしやすい印象でした。 アクセス面でも強くて、仙石線の多賀城駅から本当に近い（徒歩1分が体感でも納得）。私は駅前のイベント帰りに寒さと強風で逃げ込むように入ったんですが、結果的に「本を読む気持ち」を取り戻せた日になりました。多賀城市立図書館の内観が気になっている人は、ぜひ“ふらっと寄る”感覚で行ってみてください。
