Fields of Mistria - Steam Deck

Decided to finally choose Fields of Mistria to buy off of my steam wishlist!

I got to create my little character giving her blue hair for funsies. Met a dragon in my dreams 👀 and planted some tulips with some potatoes.

I spent my first day greeting all the characters and finding my way around the map. Have to say though, for someone who is used to Stardew Valley as her first farming sim, the map is a little intimidating.

Have you played Fields of Mistria yet? 🌾

... Read moreWhen I first fired up Fields of Mistria on my Steam Deck, I was immediately impressed by how smoothly it ran. The vibrant graphics looked fantastic on the handheld screen, making those first few moments of character creation really pop. Seeing the title screen with options like 'New Game' and 'Settings' (just like in the screenshot!) felt perfectly optimized for the device. My blue-haired character felt right at home in this charming new world. The customization options, while not endless, allowed for a fun personalized touch, letting me craft someone ready for farm life. It’s always fun to see your unique character come to life, especially in these kinds of games where you spend so much time with them. Speaking of exploration, the article mentioned the map felt a bit intimidating compared to Stardew Valley, and I completely agree! While Stardew's map gradually unfolds, Mistria throws you into a larger, more intricate space right away. It's not a bad thing, just a different pace. I often found myself consulting the in-game map, figuring out where all the shops and villagers were. It adds to the sense of discovery, but be prepared for a bit more navigation in the early game. It definitely makes those first few days, like Spring 1, 7:00 AM, a real adventure. Those early in-game days, like Spring 1 and Spring 3 seen in the OCR images, were a blur of meeting villagers, finding my bearings, and, of course, planting! My initial patch of tulips and potatoes felt like a huge accomplishment. Foraging for wild plants and materials also quickly became a relaxing routine. And meeting Caldarus, the guardian dragon, so early on was a delightful surprise. The dialogue from the OCR, 'Y-you're the guardian dragon?' and 'Well met, mortal,' perfectly captured that magical first encounter. The sleeping cat in the background of that scene also added to the cozy charm. One thing I truly appreciate is how intuitive the controls are on the Steam Deck. Everything felt natural, from moving around to interacting with objects and menus. It really makes it feel like a true portable cozy gaming experience. I haven't encountered any significant performance hiccups, which is always a plus for a game I plan to sink many hours into. I'm still early in my adventure, looking forward to uncovering more secrets, befriending more townsfolk, and seeing what other magical elements this world has to offer. If you're looking for a new farming sim to sink hours into, especially on your Steam Deck, Fields of Mistria is definitely worth checking out. It offers a fresh take with its own unique charm and plenty to explore.
