私がいちばん悩んだのは「強剪定しすぎて失敗しない？」「3月に切っても遅くない？」の2つでした。結論から言うと、イチジクは冬〜早春（12〜3月）に剪定しやすく、ポイントを押さえると“こんなに切っても大丈夫”になりやすいです。 ■剪定の前にやっておくと失敗が減ること ・剪定バサミ／ノコギリは消毒してから（病気予防にかなり効きました） ・太い枝を落とす予定なら、切る場所を先に決めてから作業（迷って切り直すと傷が増えがち） ・木が大きくなりすぎた場合は「一気に全部」より、まず骨格（主枝）を整理してから細枝…の順が安全でした。 ■失敗しない切り方（初心者向け） 私が教わって一番わかりやすかったのは、「新芽が出る部分を選んで、節の上でカットする」こと。節のすぐ上を狙うと、春に芽が動いたときに枝が作りやすく、結果的に実付きも安定しやすい印象です。太い枝は無理にハサミでいかず、ノコギリの方が切り口がきれいになりました。 ■切り口の保護（乾燥・病気が心配な人へ） 切った直後の切り口が乾きすぎたり、雨で傷みそうなときは、切り口保護剤を塗ると安心感がありました。私は木工用の補修材（木工ボンド系）を塗って保護するやり方も試しましたが、「乾燥と病気対策」という目的が明確だと判断しやすいです。 ■3月剪定＝株を増やしたい人に向く 剪定した枝（穂木）をそのまま挿し木に回せるのが3月のうれしいところ。私は鹿沼土に差して、明るい日陰で管理しました。水やりはやりすぎないのがコツで、鉢底から流れるまでたっぷり→次は土の状態を見て、を徹底したら発根率が上がりました。 ■「肥料やりすぎ」っぽいサインと対処 勢いが良すぎて葉ばかり茂る／枝がひょろひょろで倒れやすいとき、肥料過多の可能性を疑いました。私はいったん追肥を止めて水管理を安定させ、樹形を整えてから必要量だけ再開。特に鉢植えは効きすぎるので、少なめスタートが無難でした。 ■無花果（イチジク）の花が咲かない？について イチジクは“花が外から見えにくい”果樹なので、「咲いてない？」と不安になることがありました。実のふくらみが花に相当するため、剪定後に新梢が伸びて節が増えると、結果的に実が付きやすく感じます。 最後に、私が自分に言い聞かせているのは「剪定＝来年の実を作る準備」。迷ったら、①時期は12〜3月、②節の上で切る、③道具消毒と切り口ケア、この3点だけでも意外と失敗しにくくなりました。
