New Zealand winter

The snow-covered peaks not only create a breathtaking backdrop but also invite a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking and photography for nature lovers seeking a peaceful retreat. From my experience visiting during the colder months, the quiet roads winding into hidden corners offer wonderful solitude away from city life. These spots become perfect for reflective walks or simply enjoying the crisp, fresh air that fills your lungs with a sense of renewal. Additionally, winter in New Zealand’s South Island is less crowded, allowing for a more intimate connection with nature. This is an ideal time for those who appreciate discovering hidden gems and savoring moments of peace surrounded by majestic landscapes. To make the most of a South Island winter, consider timing your visit around the early morning or late afternoon when the light enhances the snowy vistas. Carry warm clothing and a camera to capture these unforgettable peaceful views, making your nature escape truly memorable.

As long as you or your body like the cold. My sister lived in Christchurch for 45 years and has just moved to Papamoa. Decided that the bones were getting too old for the cold and that's one of the reasons why I can't live there now. If you fit in active and skiing or snowboarding, trekking through the snow it's a place for you and the scenery is gorgeous. We have some beautiful scenery in the North Island too.!I guess it depends on what you like. Give me a beach any day somewhere warm with the ocean. I've been begging for the last 2+ years and now my kidney I'm not working. We're not ready to check the car in but live your life where you can🙂 don't waste a single day❤️
