People’s actions are truth/ believe them
I used to be someone who easily fell for charming words and grand promises. It took me years, and a few painful lessons, to truly understand the profound truth behind 'I don't trust words, I trust actions.' People can tell you anything, absolutely anything, to get what they want or to make themselves look good. But their actions? Their actions are the silent, undeniable truth-tellers. I remember a time I was dating someone who would constantly shower me with compliments and talk about all the amazing things we'd do together. He'd say 'I'll always be there for you,' but when a real crisis hit, he was nowhere to be found. That's when it clicked for me. He told me he was reliable, but his actions screamed the opposite. It was a tough pill to swallow, but it taught me to believe them the first time their actions contradict their words. That experience was everything. This isn't about being cynical; it's about being discerning. It's about protecting your peace and your heart. I've found that when someone's words and actions align, that's where true trust is earned. They don't just say they care; they show it through their consistency, their presence, and their follow-through. It's in the small, everyday choices they make, not just the big declarations. This consistency is the bedrock of trust, showing you who they truly are rather than just telling you. So, how do you put this into practice? For me, it starts with observation. Instead of immediately buying into a narrative someone presents, I now consciously look for patterns in their behavior. Do they show up on time? Do they keep their promises, even the small ones? Do their values, as expressed through their words, match their choices? If someone tells me they value honesty but then constantly bends the truth, I have to believe their actions. That's the real 'everything' they're showing me. It's a powerful shift in perspective. It allows you to filter out the noise and focus on what's real. Once you start prioritizing actions over mere words, you'll find your relationships become more authentic, and you'll waste less time and emotional energy on those whose words are empty. It’s hard to unlearn years of conditioning, but 'believe them the first time' they show you who they are, not just what they say. This wisdom has truly transformed how I navigate the world and has led me to much more genuine connections.
