Maha Maha Temple, a World Cultural Heritage Site

The end of the wait, after the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea, announced the registration of the "Temple of the Temple of the Cathedral of Nakhon Si Thammarat" as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on July 25, 2026.

This announcement marks Thailand's new World Heritage Site, the 6th World Cultural Heritage Site and the 9th World Heritage Site in Thailand and the first World Heritage Site in the South.

For the Maha Maha Temple, it is the main monastery, the type of Maha Maha Maha, formerly known as the "Temple of the Relic," a Buddha temple that does not have a permanent monk, with the ruler of the city, the adult synod, and the four temples together to maintain it.

Until 1915, His Majesty the Prince (Reign 6), please give the teacher of discipline from the Diamond Temple to come and take care of the temple, with the new name "Temple of the Great Temple."

At the center of the temple, the monk of the Pagoda, inside which is enshrined the left and the Buddha's relics, is a landmark where both Thai and foreign Buddhists respect their faith.

In the past, the Pagoda was like the main city of Nakhon Si Thammarat. People came to worship and offered sacrifices of all kinds so continuously that it made the temple a huge collection of precious antiquities and relics and a landmark site for Nakhon Si Thammarat to the present day.
