How did this happen?!?!
Here is a rear frame bushing that I tried removing. I used the special service tool however all it did was bend the lip of the bushing outwards till it had no lip to grip on. I proceeded to try and use an air hammer hoping the vibration and impact would free it up so it could come out, however that was also unsuccessful. At this point I was ready to order a new subframe assembly since this was not going anywhere. However before I did that I wanted to make an attempt to maybe cut it with a sawzall and hope that it would relieve the tension but that was also unsuccessful. Last try involved me taking an air hammer and ramming it from the top of the bushing and eventually I got it to slowly to move and come out. However as you can see in the pictures I completely destroyed the subframe, wasted half my day, and pissed off half the shop with constantly using the air hammer. I ended up ordering a new frame that came in with the bushings as it was still under warranty. I know these are supposed to be a tight fit but I believe this one was too tight as the designated tool for the job couldn’t handle it. I also know that you guys will ask why I didn’t order the frame right away, but you have to understand that warranty only covers the part that is faulty. If that part can be replace you have to replace it, no matter how long you waste your time. Long story short if you have to press out bushing on a Toyota subframe, save yourself time and just do the frame. I had to write a 10 page essay to warranty explaining why I did what I did so I could atleast get paid half the time I wasted on this thing. I did learn a few things from this experience that I will not repeat again but cross your fingers that I get paid 🤞🏼
