✨ MOVING OUT ✨ after just 3 months because… my landlord is a thief! 🫠
Y’all, I really thought this place was gonna be my cozy little home, but things took a turn QUICK. My laptop went missing. Not only that, whoever took it tried logging into my email from a place I’ve never been before. The fact that my landlord is the only one who has access to my apartment just makes the whole thing feel shady AF.
This happened literally less than a month after moving in and I was trying to call it a loss and try to get over it because I know I have no where to move to but I just cant.
I’m living in paranoia, snapping pics of my belongings like I’m running inventory for a crime scene because I don’t know when something else is going to go missing. I just can’t keep paying rent to the same people who stole from me.
Do I know where I’m moving to yet? Nope. 🌀 But one thing about me, I’ll figure it out. This isn’t the plan I had, but I refuse to stay somewhere that makes me feel this uncomfortable.

When faced with a situation where a landlord is perceived as dishonest or even criminal, it can lead to significant emotional and financial distress.
In situations similar to mine, it's essential to document everything. Take photos of your belongings and keep a record of communication with your landlord. If you ever feel unsafe or believe theft has occurred, contact local authorities.
Furthermore, research tenant rights specific to your area. Many locations have laws that protect renters and provide avenues for addressing grievances. Joining local tenant advocacy groups can also provide support and resources.
Consider seeking legal advice, especially if you face retaliation after reporting suspected landlord misconduct. Moving out is often a stressful process, and the uncertainty of finding a new place can add to the anxiety. However, prioritizing safety and comfort in your living situation is vital, and sometimes, walking away is the best option for your peace of mind.
While my experience has been daunting, it has taught me valuable lessons about vigilance and tenant rights.
