Cleaning with ADHD!

If you’re like me, cleaning is more than a chore at times! Like gets crazy with jobs, kids, spouses, bills, ETC ETC ETC

As much as we would ALL love to say we have it all together, we just simply don’t!

Having ADHD on top of it, sometimes the smallest tasks seem nearly impossible! It’s so easy to fall into the “overwhelming “ stage! Like me personally, I can look at 1 single load of clothes, and think to myself “whoa I just do not feel like folding these! Let alone putting them up!” So we tend to just slide to the side until we have absolutely no choice!

I’ve realized my easy way of getting my tasks done is just writing them out daily! Like seeing it there, in front of me just snaps my brain into sport mode!

So I wanted to provide a few examples! Feel free to share your ideas! The main thing is to do what you’re comfortable doing! Whatever works for you, keep working it! #adhdhacks #adhdcleaning #cleaning #organization

... Read moreCleaning with ADHD can feel like an Olympic sport sometimes, right? I used to feel completely paralyzed just looking at a cluttered room, wondering where to even begin. But over time, I've discovered some game-changing strategies that have transformed my approach from overwhelming chaos to manageable progress. That initial spark of writing down tasks, as mentioned by many, is truly powerful. For me, seeing a tangible list, rather than a mental to-do avalanche, makes all the difference. It's like my brain finally gets a clear roadmap. I've found breaking down larger tasks into tiny, almost ridiculous steps helps. Instead of 'clean the bedroom,' I write 'put one shirt in the laundry basket,' or 'clear one item off the nightstand.' This prevents the 'overwhelming' stage from taking hold. Creating a realistic cleaning schedule has been a lifesaver. I don't aim for perfection, but consistency. My 'DAILY' tasks are quick hits – maybe wipe down kitchen counters after dinner, make the bed in the morning, or a quick tidy of the living room before bed. These small wins build momentum. For 'WEEKLY' tasks, I assign a focus area to each day. For instance, Monday might be a deeper dive into the 'bedroom cleaning checklist', Tuesday for the 'bathroom', Wednesday for the 'kitchen'. This way, no single area becomes a monumental task, and I know exactly what my focus is for that day, reducing decision fatigue. Let's talk about the bedroom, a common ADHD battlefield! My simple 'bedroom cleaning checklist for ADHD' looks something like this: Clear all surfaces (nightstand, dresser) of stray items. Gather all dirty laundry and put it in the hamper. Make the bed (even if it's just pulling up the duvet!). Put away any clean clothes that are still out. Quick vacuum or sweep around the bed. Take out any trash. This checklist keeps it focused and prevents me from getting sidetracked. It's about progress, not perfection. And then there's 'ADHD hyperfocus cleaning' – the secret weapon! We know how intense hyperfocus can be when directed. I've learned to leverage it. If I suddenly feel that surge of energy and focus, instead of letting it take me down a rabbit hole of research or a new hobby, I try to direct it towards a specific cleaning task. Maybe it's deep-cleaning the bathroom, or tackling a mountain of laundry. The key is to have a pre-determined task in mind, so when the hyperfocus hits, you can channel it productively. Sometimes, setting a timer for 15-20 minutes and telling myself 'I'm going to hyperfocus on this one thing' can actually kickstart it. It's like a focused sprint that yields incredible results. Remember, the goal isn't a spotless museum, but a functional, comfortable home. There will be 'make-up days' or days when nothing gets done, and that's okay. The important thing is to have a system that supports you, not one that adds to your stress. Find what clicks for your brain, whether it's 'A.M.' and 'P.M.' tasks, or a different schedule, and give yourself grace. Every small step is a victory.
