Giant Ghaya Clay: A Mystical Mass in Southern Amulet Mythology

According to people in the southern region, the giant Ghaya soil is often found in the Ban Lam Phraya Mountains, Yala Province, especially in the area of Lam Phraya. This soil is completely black, fine-grained, and rarely deposits of plants like normal soil, thus causing the ancients to view it as a naturally occurring soil and believe that it has the power of nature accumulated in it, so that it was used as a mass in the construction of amulets according to ancient texts.
The legend that explains the origin of the name "giant clay" is a folk story that is linked to the epic of Ram. It is said that in the past, the giant set up a large pan to simmer the magic at the behest of Ravana, but in the meantime, Hanuman interfered with the battle, causing the pan to overturn, and the simmering medicine to flow into the stream and the ground, and over time people called it "giant clay," and the area was called "the pan," according to the legend.
In the southern amulet industry, the giant din is often mentioned as one of the masses used to build the great-grandfather Vanya Temple in 1954, which is one of Thailand's most famous first amulets.
