I BE SO SICK BC WHAT DO U MEAN 😭😭😭 shoutout to all the sim modders you are doing GODS work 🙏🏽‼️ #sims #sims4 #sims4mods #thesims4 #thesims4cc
Okay, seriously, who else gets that sinking feeling in their stomach, almost like a 'Sims 4 stomach flu,' every time a new game update is announced? 😫 I swear, it's a universal mod user experience! You spend hours, maybe even days, meticulously modding my sims, getting everything just right, only to see there's about to be an update. My heart just drops! It’s tough because we love the new content and bug fixes that official Sims 4 updates bring, but they often come at the cost of our beloved custom content and script mods. Why does this happen? Usually, game updates change the underlying code, and since mods often hook into that code, they become incompatible. This can lead to anything from minor glitches to full-blown game crashes. But don't despair, fellow Simmers! Over the years, I've picked up a few tricks to help navigate the treacherous waters of Sims 4 mod updates. Here’s what I usually do: Backup, Backup, Backup! Before even thinking about updating your game, ALWAYS backup your 'Saves' folder and your 'Mods' folder. Just copy them to a safe place on your desktop. If anything goes wrong, you can revert to your previous game state. Trust me, learning this the hard way taught me a valuable lesson! Disable Automatic Updates: In your Origin/EA App settings, you can often turn off automatic game updates. This gives you control over when the update happens. I prefer to wait a few days or even a week after an update drops. Remove Your Mods First: Before updating, move your entire 'Mods' folder out of your Sims 4 directory (e.g., onto your desktop). Update the game, then launch it once without any mods to ensure it runs correctly. Check Modder Websites/Forums: This is CRUCIAL. After an update, modders work tirelessly to update their creations. Head to your favorite modders' Patreon, Tumblr, or Discord servers. They'll usually have a list of updated mods or instructions on what to do. The community is fantastic for sharing info on what's working and what's broken. Sites like Mod The Sims and specific creator pages are my go-tos. Reintroduce Mods Gradually: Once you’ve updated your game and checked for updated mods, slowly bring your mods back into your 'Mods' folder, testing the game after each batch. This helps pinpoint any problematic mods quickly. Script mods are often the first to break, so I usually add those back last. The 50/50 Method: If your game is crashing after an update and you can't figure out which mod is causing it, try the 50/50 method. Remove half your mods, test. If it works, the problem is in the other half. If it still crashes, the problem is in the half you kept. Repeat until you find the culprit! It’s a bit of work, but it saves so much headache in the long run. And honestly, a huge, heartfelt thank you to all the Sims 4 modders out there. They truly are doing "God's work," making our game infinitely more enjoyable. Without them, my Sims would be so boring!
