Weight Loss Journey

Felt like documenting somewhere about my weight loss journey but didn’t want to do it on IG so lemon8 it shall be!

❗️Disclaimer: not a certified trainer / dietitian / nutrition expert but I had a PT to guide me along & also coming from a Food Tech degree, I do have a fair share of knowledge behind food science & nutrition!

Throughout my life, I have always been that not-skinny not-fat girl (I would honestly say I’m on the chubbier side) & having friends who are skinny definitely nuture a mindset that skinny = pretty. I feel that my goal to lose weight has always been there since my secondary school days. I would try all sorts of different things in order to lose weight (intermittent fasting, low carb diet, home workouts, etc) but all these were futile since I did not stick to it.

Tbh, my reason for weight loss was for all aesthetic reasons and not at all for health reasons therefore it never lasted.

Therefore with my adult money, I finally invest in my health and got a PT! I had two different trainers & I feel is really important that your trainer really understands your struggle and is wiling to give you knowledge as much as possible! The first PT I had definitely helped me lose weight but after 24 sessions (twice per week), I realised I did not gain any knowledge nor understanding my body & it was more of a crash diet for me because my weight went back up (as you can see from my weight graph) so comes my 2nd trainer whom was able to light a bulb in my head about body recomp, going on a cut and reverse dieting!

It’s going to be the end of my PT soon and I can feel the difference in my mindset and habits. I know I will and can stick these habits and I hope to see more changes in my body!

... Read moreOne key lesson I learned during my weight loss journey is the importance of understanding your body's needs rather than just chasing numbers on the scale. Initially, I tried popular methods like intermittent fasting and low-carb diets, but without proper guidance and consistency, these efforts didn’t last. Having a personal trainer made a significant difference, especially when my second trainer introduced me to concepts like body recomposition, cutting, and reverse dieting. These approaches helped me lose fat while maintaining muscle, making my weight loss more sustainable. Besides the workout routines, I paid close attention to my nutrition. I aimed to follow an "80% whole foods, 20% soul foods" balance, allowing me to enjoy my favorite treats like roasted pork with cabbage, Greek yoghurt granola bowls, and even occasional indulgences like Krispy Kreme doughnuts without guilt. Planning cheat meals in advance helped me stay on track without feeling deprived. Tracking my progress with weight graphs was also motivating. Over several months, I saw fluctuations but gradually moved from 56kg to 52.9kg as of October 23. What’s more rewarding than the numbers is how my mindset shifted—I now focus on healthy habits I can maintain long term rather than quick fixes. If you’re on your own weight loss journey, remember to seek support, be patient with yourself, and prioritize learning how your body responds to different foods and exercises. Sustainable success comes from habits that fit your lifestyle and make you feel good inside and out.
