Scripting for Birth Anxiety✨
I am an anxious person by nature but my husband and I always laugh because when I got pregnant- we both expected me to be a nervous wreck but it was actually the most chill I had ever been in my life 😂 I had heard so many heartbreaking and scary birth stories and seen dramatized births on tv and in movies, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to hold it together unless I decided that wasn’t going to be my story. So I took to scripting whenever those anxious thoughts on giving birth came up!
Here’s what I did to tackle my anxiety and have a joyful birth-
I scripted on how I wanted to FEEL before, during, and after birth. I wrote that I felt so supported, safe, and clear headed. I wrote that I was surrounded by women and it felt like I’d known them for years. I wrote that I deeply trusted my doctors and nurses that they had mine and my baby’s best interest in mind. I wrote that I felt safe to go at my own pace. I wrote that I could clearly communicate what I was and wasn’t comfortable with and I was heard and respected. I wrote that I was able to go with the flow and be in the present moment. I wrote that I felt so POWERFUL!
I made sure not to focus on too many specific details because I know that plans change, and panicking over what I could not control would only take me out of the moment.
I look back on my birth now with such joy, even though my birth plan fell apart, I had to get induced, I had to stay in the hospital for longer than I expected…nothing went the way I expected it to- but the way I FELT about it, my MINDSET, was what made it joyful. I put in the work to get my head in the right space because sometimes the only thing we have control over is our perception.
Scripting is such an incredible tool for quieting anxious thoughts. If you’re someone who is feeling anxiety about giving birth or really anything in your life- please give scripting a shot. Even just to give your mind a break from the negative thought loops.
Also moms to be- seek out positive birth stories to model your script after! We are flooded with the scary stories so much so that it’s hard to remember the good ones exist! But they do! A dear friend said to me that her birth was the most powerful she had ever felt, and that stuck with me! I said to myself- that is how I will feel about my birth! That’s what I want to walk away with!!
If you have a positive birth story, please drop it below for the moms to be! 💕 If you’re interested I’d share mine too!

When I first shared my story about using scripting for birth anxiety, I mostly focused on the delivery itself. But honestly, pregnancy can bring up so many different anxieties, not just about the big day. Sometimes, it’s the quiet worries that creep in – feelings of being overwhelmed, unsupported, or even a little lonely on this incredible journey. It's easy to feel like you're navigating uncharted waters, and not everyone has a strong support system around them, which can amplify those anxious feelings. That’s where the power of scripting really shines, extending far beyond just birth prep. Think of it as a tool for your entire pregnancy mindset. Instead of waiting for anxious thoughts about labor to pop up, you can proactively use scripting to cultivate feelings of peace, confidence, and self-reliance throughout your pregnancy. For example, if you're feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information or decisions, you could script about feeling clear-headed and decisive, trusting your instincts as a mother. If moments of loneliness arise – which is completely normal, even with a partner – you can script about feeling deeply connected to your baby, and surrounded by an invisible circle of love and strength. My own journey taught me that even when external circumstances aren’t perfect, your inner world is your sanctuary. Scripting helped me build that sanctuary. When I felt doubts creeping in, I’d turn to my script, reminding myself of my inherent strength and resilience. It wasn't about ignoring challenges, but about acknowledging them and then intentionally focusing my energy on the positive outcomes I desired and the strong emotions I wanted to embody. This mental practice became my anchor. So, how can you start if you're experiencing these broader anxieties? First, find a quiet moment each day. It doesn't have to be long, even five minutes can make a difference. Write down how you want to feel about your pregnancy journey *today*. Not just about birth, but about your body, your baby, your choices, and your emotional well-being. For instance, "I feel incredibly capable and strong as my body nurtures my baby," or "I am surrounded by love and support, both seen and unseen." Don't censor yourself; let your desires flow onto the page. Secondly, actively seek out positive stories and affirmations that resonate with you, especially if you're feeling isolated. While I mentioned modeling birth scripts, this applies to all aspects of pregnancy. Read blogs, listen to podcasts, or connect with other moms-to-be who share uplifting experiences. This helps counteract the influx of negative or scary narratives that often dominate our feeds or conversations. Remember, what you feed your mind grows. Finally, be kind to yourself. Pregnancy is a transformative experience, and it's okay to have moments of fear or doubt. The goal of scripting isn't to eliminate all negative feelings, but to give you a powerful method to cope with them, to reframe your perspective, and to consistently bring yourself back to a place of strength and joy. You are creating life, and that is truly a superpower. Trust your process, trust your body, and script your way to an empowered pregnancy.
