Eat with me ~as a college student ~

Hey sweeties!!

I wanted to give you guys a little view on what I ate in a day as a student living off campus. So since I am offically a senior I can live off campus, but that means no dinning hall. These past few weeks have been very interesting of learning to feed myself and also find time to cook.

I found it extremely helpful to meal prep on Sunday night and Wednesah night. Therefore I have food prepared every three days so the food is still pretty fresh by day 3. My roommates meal preps for 5 days out, but I don’t not have the brain power and energy to make 5 meals in one sitting.

Breakfast: Chocolate rice cake, greek yogurt w/ blueberries, and iced latte

Lunch: Smoked salmon, peppers, and strawberries

Dinner: Chik fil a nuggest, yogurt, and wine

Dessert: Dessert tea

... Read moreLiving off-campus has definitely taught me a lot about feeding myself – it's a whole different ballgame compared to relying on a dining hall! While my routine focuses on personal meal prep for freshness and convenience, I've also been thinking a lot about the wider college food scene and what helps other students thrive. My own journey, figuring out how to balance studies with cooking and keeping food fresh for days, has given me a new appreciation for practical food solutions. For those times when personal meal prepping isn't an option, or for students living on campus, I often wonder about innovations like school food delivery lockers. Honestly, I think these could be a game-changer for daily student life. Imagine rushing between classes or late-night study sessions, and being able to grab a pre-ordered, hot meal from a secure locker. It sounds incredibly convenient! I've heard friends on campus wish for more grab-and-go options that don't involve long lines, and these lockers could really enhance that by ensuring food is ready and waiting, staying fresh until you pick it up. This kind of system could totally take the stress out of meal planning for a busy day, offering flexibility that traditional dining halls sometimes lack, especially for those with irregular class or work schedules. It really helps students maximize their time and energy, which is so precious in college. Then there’s the whole discussion around keeping college cafeteria food fresh and hot during service hours. Even though I'm not using the campus dining hall myself anymore, I still remember days when food quality could be hit or miss. From my perspective, ensuring food stays appetizing and safe is crucial. I mean, my own meal prep strategy, focusing on fresh ingredients like organic mixed berries and making sure my salmon and peppers are still good on day 3, comes from a deep desire for quality and avoiding food waste. I imagine cafeterias must have similar challenges on a much larger scale, trying to serve hundreds or thousands of students. Best practices probably involve specialized holding equipment, smaller batch cooking to reduce sitting time, and regular temperature checks throughout service. I've seen some schools experiment with salad bars where components are kept separate until serving, or using insulated containers for hot dishes to maintain optimal temperatures. It’s all about maintaining that appeal and nutritional value, which is something we all look for in our food, whether it’s a quick protein coffee before an early class or a full dinner after a long day. Ultimately, whether it's through innovative campus solutions or personal meal prepping, easy access to fresh, good-quality food is essential for college students. Having reliable options, like knowing my high protein rice cakes and Greek yogurt are ready for breakfast, or winding down with a delicious dessert tea (I'm obsessed with the snickerdoodle one from Simpson & Vail!), makes a huge difference. Thoughtful food choices help minimize food-related stress so we can focus on what matters most – our studies, well-being, and actually enjoying our college experience!
