Allow me to Reintroduce Myself 💚
My name is Kris. Kr to the is 😭 born and raised in Atlanta, GA. One of seven kids, raised by my mom on government assistance while my dad was in & out of jail. Typical black struggle, but my childhood still was very lit. We made the best out of what we had.
In 6th grade, I got into hair! Starting with my own. I wanted long, healthy curls like the YouTubers I followed. After frying my hair with flat irons and no heat protectant 😭 I finally learned how to really care for it. That journey sparked my love for hair and self-expression.
I graduated high school in 2016 and went on to Kent State. College was rough mentally, but it taught me about life and opened me up to new cultures. My childhood friend let me do different natural styles on him: twists, cornrows, braids, even started his locs because I refused to comb his two strands out 😂 I thought I was so fye with the hair stuff.
Finished college and moved back home. I interned at a private school, enjoyed it, and eventually got hired. Me? A teacher? Wild. But I gained so much respect for educators. I tried doing hair on the side for extra cash, but whew; I was drained. Up at 6:30, teaching all day, then doing hair? Nah.
Something had to give and God made it clear: it was the job. So I quit mid-year, thinking I’d do hair full time. Easier said than done. I had no car, no money, no job; just God, a dream, support from loved ones, and my hustle.
For two months, I worked out of my cousin’s house until I found my first salon home; an old-school spot that taught me a lot about hair, clients, and business. They provided the clients, I split the earnings 50/50. It worked for a while, but eventually I transitioned to my current salon where I bring in my own clients and make my own profit.
After months of balancing both salons, I took a leap of faith and in just one month, I had a car, my own apartment, and a savings account. GOD DID.
This barely scratches the surface of my story, but I’m grateful to share a piece of it. I’m walking the path God laid for me, and I encourage anyone reading this: take the risk. Make the move. Trust God. When your mind, body, and spirit align, everything starts to fall into place.
