Sarasota, FL: what to do/what to eat

We went in May, great time to go. It did get a bit hot, so April would probably be even better. It wasn’t too busy or touristy yet. We were only here for a couple days and then we drove to Orlando for some more fun. We knocked out a lot of the touristy things to do and had fun doing it! There is a seafood place that I can not remember, but I feel like this close to the ocean, you can’t really go wrong with any sea food! The art museum, Columbia Restaurant and the beach were my favorite parts.

What to do:

☀️ Beaches at Siesta Key

☀️ Beaches at Lido Key

☀️ Mote aquarium

☀️ shopping at St. Armands Circle

☀️ Ringling Brothers museum

☀️ Cà d’Zan mansion

☀️ The Ringling art museum

☀️ Busch Gardens Theme Park in Tampa

Things to eat:

🍣 Pacific Rim for sushi

🥙Columbia Restaurant for amazing atmosphere

🍰 Le Macaron French Pastries a treat and espresso

🥗Mattison’s City Grille for live music on a patio

Did I miss anything worth mentioning?!

... Read moreSo, you're wondering, 'Is Sarasota, FL worth visiting?' Let me tell you, after my recent trip, it's a resounding YES! I was blown away by the mix of culture, nature, and incredible food. It's not just a beach town; it’s an experience that truly left an impression on me. Let's really dive into some of the must-see Sarasota landmarks that made my trip unforgettable. First up, The Ringling. Oh my goodness, the art museum is fantastic, but the Cà d'Zan mansion next door? Absolutely breathtaking! Walking through those opulent rooms and seeing the stunning architecture, like the grand facade and the richly decorated golden ceiling with painted panels, felt like stepping into an old-world European estate. It’s not just a quick stop; you could easily spend half a day exploring the grounds, gardens, and galleries. It completely blew my mind and is a true testament to Sarasota's unique character. And the beaches! Siesta Key Public Beach truly lives up to its 'No. 1 Beach in the USA' title with its incredibly soft, quartz-sand. Imagine watching a sunset there – it's pure magic, just like the scenic view I captured! Lido Key offers a different, more serene vibe, perfect for a quieter day by the water. For a unique marine experience, the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium is a must. Seeing those majestic manatees gracefully swim behind the glass was such a highlight; it’s both educational and incredibly moving. Shopping and dining at St. Armands Circle was another favorite. It has such a chic, European feel with beautiful boutiques and cafes. I indulged in a delicious treat and espresso from Le Macaron French Pastries – perfect for a mid-shopping break (and yes, that was me with the pink car purse enjoying the meal!). Columbia Restaurant there isn't just about the food; it's about the amazing atmosphere and history. I highly recommend trying their 1905 Salad and some of their traditional Spanish-Cuban dishes – truly a highlight of my culinary adventures. If you're looking for more fun activities near Sarasota, don't forget Busch Gardens Tampa Bay! It's just a short drive away and offers an exhilarating escape with thrilling roller coasters like SheiKra (yes, I braved it!). It’s a fantastic option if you want a dose of adrenaline after some relaxed beach days. For something more local, consider renting a kayak or paddleboard to explore the mangroves; it's a beautiful way to see Florida's natural side. For foodies, Sarasota delivers! Mattison’s City Grille on a patio with live music was such a lively evening – the perfect spot to unwind. And while I mentioned Pacific Rim for sushi, trust me, with the ocean so close, any fresh seafood place you stumble upon is likely to be amazing. Ask locals for their favorites; you can't go wrong! A little tip for your visit: I went in May, which was great because it wasn't overly crowded yet, but April might be even better to avoid the peak heat. Overall, Sarasota tourism offers so much more than I expected – it's a vibrant destination perfect for anyone seeking a blend of cultural enrichment, natural beauty, and fantastic food. Don't hesitate; pack your bags!
