Sketchbook Ideas! ✨ ✍️

Here are six different sketchbook ideas from mine to yours! 🥰

These are all my original drawings from my sketchbook! I love to see these used as inspiration for your own work 🥰 - however I’ve been recently seeing posts and screenshots of my drawings, paintings, and sketchbook tours claiming them as their own ☹️ I love posting here but it is discouraging to see people steal your art - please don’t do this 🙃

Materials:

- Strathmore sketchbook 5.5” x 8.5” size 📖

- Pilot Precise V5 rolling ball pens 🖊️

The drawing Vs. the idea:

1. Cherries 🍒

- draw your favorite fruit!

2. The blue lobster 🦞

- draw one item on the page that is different from everything else.

3. Blueberries 🫐

- Draw a collage page with the fruit of your choice and add more parts of the fruit (the blossoms, branches, leaves, etc)

4. Flower Doodles 🌸

- Pick a simple, small doodle and cover the page with it!

5. Blue Tiles 💙

- Draw a grid of your choice and draw something different in each box!

6. Patterned Paradise 🏝️

- Inspired by wallpaper! Draw a few of each item around the page and connect them!

Which drawing is your favorite? 😍 What idea are you going to try first? 🥰

... Read moreGetting started with a new sketchbook can sometimes feel intimidating, especially when you're faced with that first blank page! But trust me, a sketchbook is a sanctuary for creativity, a space where you can explore, experiment, and let your imagination run wild without any pressure. If you're searching for sketchbook doodle ideas or ways to create creative sketchbook pages, you've come to the right place. I’ve found that having a few go-to prompts can really help kickstart the process and transform a daunting blank page into an exciting canvas. One of the best pieces of advice I ever received for my sketchbook was to not aim for perfection. It's truly a place to play. For example, instead of trying to draw something complex, just pick a simple, small doodle and cover a page with it, just like the lovely floral doodles you might see. It's incredibly therapeutic and creates a beautiful, intricate pattern. Or, take the idea of drawing your favorite fruit – like cherries or blueberries. You can expand on this by drawing a whole collage page with the fruit, adding the blossoms, branches, and leaves, creating a full aesthetic sketchbook spread. It’s a fantastic way to practice observations and composition. For those looking for first sketchbook page ideas, try a theme. My blue lobster idea, where one item is different from everything else, is a perfect example. You can choose any quirky object and surround it with related, but slightly off-kilter, elements. It encourages abstract thinking and can lead to really interesting results. Another approach I love is the grid of your choice method, similar to the blue tiles concept. Instead of just patterns, you could dedicate each box to a different mini-doodle: a tiny landscape, an abstract shape, or even a mood. This breaks down the page into manageable sections and stops you from feeling overwhelmed. When it comes to materials, don't overthink it. My go-to is usually a Strathmore sketchbook for its quality paper that holds up well to various mediums, paired with Pilot Precise V5 rolling ball pens. The smooth ink flow and vibrant colors of these pens make drawing red ink drawings or blue and light blue patterned drawings of sailboats, palm trees, and surfboards an absolute joy. Experimenting with different pen colors, like the pink, yellow, blue, and orange pens I use for floral doodles, can really bring your sketchbook inspo to life. You don't need fancy tools to create stunning art; sometimes, simplicity is key. Beyond just drawing specific objects, think of your sketchbook as a visual diary. It’s a great spot for artist brainstorming ideas, jotting down quick sketches of things you see, or even creating mood boards with color palettes that inspire you. Imagine a patterned paradise inspired by wallpaper, where you draw a few of each item around the page and connect them, building a continuous flow of design. This method is fantastic for developing your own unique style and is one of my favorite sketchbook activities. Ultimately, your sketchbook is a personal journey. Whether you're filling it with cute aesthetic sketchbook ideas or just simple scribbles, the most important thing is to enjoy the process. Don't be afraid to make mistakes; they're just part of the creative adventure. Hopefully, these ideas, from vibrant collages to intricate patterns, give you plenty of inspiration to fill your pages and make your sketchbook truly your own creative haven!
