Drawing of the day: Candy Hearts 💕 ✨
Todays drawing of the day is of candy hearts 💕
Inspired by those little candies that come around every Valentine’s Day! 🥰
Materials:
- Canson mixed media paper 5.5” x 8.5” size 📕
- POSCA Acrylic markers PC-3M ✍️
I have made a tutorial on how to draw these a post before this one - feel free to check it out! 😍
I have been experimenting with different styles and techniques with the POSCA markers and I love how this one turned out! 💕
I used a package of candy hearts as a reference for the colors and little messages! This was much more fun than using a photo - especially the reward of eating my reference after finishing this drawing 😂
Do you like candy hearts? 💕
Hey everyone! I'm so thrilled you enjoyed my candy hearts drawing. I wanted to share a bit more about my process and give you some extra tips, especially if you're looking for some sweet Valentine's Day drawing ideas or want to try drawing candy hearts step by step. While I used my trusty POSCA markers for this piece, these ideas can totally be adapted for colored pencils, paints, or even digital art! When I started, the first thing was to get those iconic heart shapes down. I always begin with a light pencil sketch on my Canson mixed media paper, which I often keep in a spiral notebook. This helps me lay out the composition without committing too early. Don't worry about making them perfectly symmetrical; a little variation makes them look more natural, just like real candy! I played around with different sizes to make the drawing more dynamic. Next up, adding those classic candy heart messages! This is where the magic really happens. I lightly sketched in phrases like 'BE MINE', 'XOXO', 'LOVE YOU', 'CUTIE PIE', and 'HUG ME'. Seeing these words come to life always makes me smile. If you're using POSCA acrylic markers, they cover pencil lines beautifully, so you can go straight over your sketch. For pencils, you might want to erase the sketch lightly before coloring. Choosing the right colors is crucial for that authentic candy heart feel. I actually used a real package of candy hearts as a reference – and yes, I ate them after! 😉 It helped me get those vibrant, pastel shades just right. POSCA markers give such a bright, opaque finish. If you're exploring 'candy heart painting', watercolors or gouache could give you a lovely soft, sweet look. For 'pencil valentines day drawing ideas', layering pastel colored pencils can achieve a similar soft effect. Once the colors and messages were done, I added a simple outline to make each heart pop. I also decided to experiment with a subtle plaid background, which you can see in the finished drawing. It was a fun little detail that added an extra layer of charm. This step is all about personalizing your art! If you're looking for more February drawing ideas beyond just candy hearts, consider sketching a cozy hot cocoa mug with tiny floating hearts, a beautifully wrapped love letter, or a stylized bouquet of flowers. For those interested in 'sweet hearts candy drawing', you could fill a whole page with a spilling pile of them, playing with perspective. And for 'how to draw candy hearts step by step', remember to take it one shape and color at a time. The key is to enjoy the process and let your creativity flow. Don't be afraid to try different mediums and techniques to find what you love!

These are so cute! I’m an artist too! Those markers look so pigmented that the last photo looks like a digital copy! I’m loving the background pattern
