... Read moreHey everyone! So many of you asked after my last post about diving deeper into God's Word, and I'm so excited to finally share the routine that's been transforming my walk. When I first heard about Bible verse mapping, I was a bit intimidated. As a 'baby Christian' (as I call myself!), I felt like I was still on spiritual 'milk,' but I craved that 'solid food' to truly grow. And let me tell you, it's been an incredible journey of discovery! What Exactly is Bible Verse Mapping? For beginners, scripture mapping is simply a way to dig into a single Bible verse, or a short passage, and really understand its context, meaning, and application to your life. It's like being a detective with God's Word! Instead of just reading, you're interacting, questioning, and letting the Holy Spirit guide you. It moves you past surface-level understanding to truly chewing on the spiritual 'solid food' mentioned in Hebrews 5:14. My 4-Day Beginner's Verse Mapping Routine (Example with Hebrews 5:14 NIV) Day 1: Choose Your Verse & Initial Observations Pick a verse: I often pray and ask God to show me what I need to focus on. For this example, let’s use Hebrews 5:14 NIV, which the Holy Spirit really highlighted for me: "But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." Write it down: Transcribe the verse exactly into your journal. First Impressions: What words stand out? What questions come to mind? Define key terms like 'solid food,' 'mature,' 'trained,' 'distinguish,' 'good,' and 'evil.' Context Clues: Look at the verses immediately before and after. Who is speaking? To whom? The Book of Hebrews, written around 60-70 AD to Jewish Christians, aimed to encourage them to persevere in their faith. Knowing this helps us understand why 'maturity' was such a crucial theme. Day 2: Cross-References & Deeper Meaning Cross-References: This is where the Bible starts speaking to itself! Look up related verses. For Hebrews 5:14, I found 1 Corinthians 3:1-2 invaluable: "Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready." This really clarifies the concept of 'milk' (basic teachings) versus 'solid food' (deeper spiritual truths). Word Studies: Use an online concordance or a study Bible to look up the original Greek or Hebrew meanings of those keywords you identified yesterday. What does 'mature' truly imply in this context? How is one 'trained'? The passage implies being 'trained' spiritually, which involves discernment. Paraphrase: Rewrite the verse in your own words. Day 3: Application & Personal Reflection **What is God saying to *me*? How does this verse apply to my life right now? Where am I still on 'milk' when I should be seeking 'solid food'? Actionable Steps: What changes can I make based on this verse? How can I 'train myself' to better discern good from evil? This could involve prayer, reading more scripture, serving, or seeking accountability. Prayer: Write a prayer asking God to help you implement these truths. Day 4: Synthesis & Journaling Summarize: Consolidate all your findings. What was the main takeaway? What have you learned about views on God, mankind, and self regarding spiritual maturity and responsibility? Journaling: Create a visual representation in your Bible study journal – use colors, drawings, or different fonts. This helps solidify the learning and makes your Bible study guide personal. Connect the dots:** How does this verse connect to other parts of scripture you've studied, or even current events? This method has truly helped me move past just knowing basic information to actively seeking God's wisdom. It’s an amazing way to grow spiritually and utilize that limitless potential we have as God-fearing women. I hope this guide helps you too on your journey to spiritual 'solid food'!
