Healing is personal. it doesn’t have to be lonely

In psychology, people who were rarely reassured as children often grow up needing constant proof that they’re lovable.

This truth isn’t about blame—it’s about understanding. It’s about compassionately tracing our present struggles back to unmet needs from our past.

When children grow up without hearing words like, “I’m proud of you” or “You’re safe here,” the brain doesn’t just forget. It adapts. It learns to live without. But in doing so, it also learns unhealthy rules about love and worthiness:

• That love must be earned

• That safety is conditional

• That vulnerability is dangerous

So when these children grow into adults and meet someone kind, patient, or truly loving—it doesn’t always feel like comfort.

It feels like danger.

It feels unfamiliar.

It feels like too good to be true.

They might:

• Overthink compliments

• Push people away to test their loyalty

• Question affection: “Why do you love me?”

• Re-read messages, looking for hidden meaning

• Struggle to let love land without evidence

This isn’t manipulation. It’s trauma logic.

It’s a nervous system wired to survive, not to trust.

But here’s the good news: healing is possible.

And it starts small.

💬 Start by noticing the pattern—when you question love, even when it’s present.

🧘🏽‍♀️ Then pause. Instead of reacting, ask yourself gently: Is this fear, or is this love?

🌱 Practice receiving. Don’t argue with the compliment. Say: “Thank you.”

📓 Journal. Write letters to the younger you—the child who never got to feel safe.

🧠 If you can, speak to a therapist about what reassurance meant in your childhood.

You are not broken. You are healing.

And not all flowers bloom in spring—some take their time and still become everything they were meant to be.

Healing is personal. But it doesn’t have to be lonely.

... Read moreMany individuals who experienced emotional neglect as children develop patterns of seeking validation in their adult relationships. Often, they may question the sincerity of love or push away those who genuinely care for them. This behavior stems from a deep-seated need for proof that they are lovable, rooted in past traumas. Understanding this makes it easier to approach personal healing with compassion. It is crucial to acknowledge that healing is a journey, often beginning with self-reflection. One may find value in journaling their experiences, recognizing patterns, and identifying moments of doubt regarding love. By actively practicing gratitude and receiving compliments without skepticism, individuals can gradually reshape their response to love. Engaging with a therapist for supportive conversations can further facilitate this process, offering tools to help navigate feelings of unworthiness. Remember, you are not alone in your struggle; many are on similar paths of healing. Finding community and sharing your story can serve as a powerful reminder that healing is indeed possible and enriching.

I was one of those children. I eventually grew to learn that shit happens, kids having kids, growing up while trying to find themselves…their place in the workd…as well as trying to raise their children. Itʻs ALL they could do…AT THAT TIME. I donʻt care what peeps think about me. If you like me, COOL. If you donʻt like me…dass your problem. BUT…Iʻm a pretty CHILL person…so there us no reason for you to dislike me…unless you did me wrong…and I returned the favor 100%😂😂
