Today’s Coloring Page
This was a fun page to color! I learned how to do bricks and really like how they turned out. I also love the texture on the tree. I kept everything else simple to try to balance out the page.
⭐️Overall rating: 9/10: I really like the different textures on this page

It's always such a joy to share a finished coloring page, especially when you feel like you've learned something new! This particular page, featuring a sweet girl with cats looking out a window at a bird's nest, really challenged me to focus on details, and I hope my experience can inspire your next coloring adventure. Finding Your Next Creative Escape: Beyond Specific Themes Sometimes, finding the perfect coloring page can be half the fun! While specific themes like 'Mamma Mia coloring pages' or 'Kipo coloring pages' are great if you have a clear idea, don't limit yourself. I often look for pages that tell a little story or have interesting elements, just like this one with the girl, cats, and that intricate bird's nest. Websites, coloring books, and even free printables offer a vast array of line art. When you're searching, try looking for keywords like 'cozy scenes,' 'fantasy animals,' or 'nature mandalas' if you're open to new ideas. Always preview the line art to see if it sparks your imagination and if there are areas you'd love to experiment with, like textures or lighting. Unlocking Depth: Mastering Brick & Tree Textures (and More!) One of the things I loved most about coloring this page was experimenting with textures, especially the brick wall and the tree. It really brings a flat image to life! For bricks, I found that layering different shades of warm grays and browns, then adding tiny, irregular dots and lines for mortar, created a realistic, weathered look. For the tree, I used short, directional strokes with varying pressures to mimic bark, blending light and dark greens for the leaves to give them dimension. Don't be afraid to try this on other elements too! Imagine creating fluffy fur for the cats, soft fabric for the girl's clothes, or even sparkling reflections on the window pane. Practice on scrap paper first, and remember that texture is all about visual bumps and grooves, which you can achieve with clever layering and mark-making. My Coloring Journey: From Blank Page to Completed Masterpiece Every time I sit down with a fresh line art page, I think about how I want the 'finished coloring page' to feel. For this scene, I wanted a warm, cozy vibe. My process usually starts with choosing a main color palette – maybe 3-5 primary colors and their shades. Then, I decide which elements will be the focal points (in this case, the textures) and which ones can be kept simpler to create balance. For example, while the brick wall and tree got detailed attention, I kept the background elements soft to ensure the main scene popped. Don't feel pressured to make every single part super detailed. Sometimes, simplicity in certain areas makes the detailed parts stand out even more. It’s all about creating visual harmony. Ohuhu Markers: Tips for Vibrant Results Since I used Ohuhu markers for this project, I wanted to share a few quick tips. These alcohol markers are fantastic for smooth blends and vibrant colors! Layering for Depth: Don't be afraid to layer lighter shades over darker ones, or even the same color multiple times, to build up intensity and create shadows. Blending: Work quickly when blending two colors, as alcohol markers dry fast. Use a lighter shade or a colorless blender marker to seamlessly merge colors. Paper Choice: A good quality marker paper or cardstock prevents bleed-through and allows for better blending. Practice Textures: Use the chisel nib for broad strokes and the brush nib for finer details and texture work, like those brick lines or tree bark. I hope these insights help you with your next 'coloured in' piece and inspire you to explore new techniques!
