1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

1/2 cup cocoa powder (unsweetened)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Add Rum (Optional): If using, add the rum and pulse a few times to mix it in.

Chill: Pour the mixture into a large pitcher or airtight container and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to let the flavors meld.

Serve: Shake or stir the Coquito before serving. Pour into small glasses and garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream.

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Chill Time: 4 hours | Total Time: 4 hours 10 minutes

Kcal: 280 kcal per serving | Servings: 10 servings

Tips:

For a richer chocolate flavor, use melted semi-sweet chocolate instead of cocoa powder.

Store Coquito in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Shake well before serving.

... Read moreHey everyone! I just wanted to share a bit more about why this Puerto Rican Chocolate Coquito recipe is an absolute game-changer for the holidays. Beyond just being incredibly delicious, it holds such a special place in my heart, and I think it will in yours too! First off, let's talk about the magic of Coquito itself. It's more than just a drink; it's a festive tradition, especially in Puerto Rican culture. Making a batch signals the start of holiday cheer, and the aroma of cinnamon and chocolate filling your kitchen is just pure bliss. While the main recipe focuses on the chocolate version (which, let's be honest, is divine!), the world of Coquito is wonderfully diverse. You can easily adapt this base: imagine a classic Coquito with just vanilla and cinnamon, or a coffee Coquito with a shot of espresso, or even a spiced pumpkin Coquito for a fall twist. Each variation keeps that incredible 'creamy brown' texture but offers a unique flavor journey. Speaking of that lovely 'creamy brown' color, presentation truly elevates the experience. The OCR mentioned 'whipped cream', 'chocolate shavings', and 'cinnamon powder' as garnishes, and I couldn't agree more! I love pouring mine into small, elegant glasses and then going all out with the toppings. A swirl of whipped cream, a dusting of cinnamon, some delicate chocolate shavings, and perhaps a 'cinnamon stick' for stirring make it look like something straight out of a fancy cafe. For an extra touch, I sometimes rim the glasses with crushed chocolate cookies – it's a small detail that makes a big impact! One of my favorite things about this Chocolate Coquito recipe is how perfect it is for making ahead. The flavors actually deepen and meld beautifully after a day or two in the fridge. This means you can whip up a big batch a few days before your holiday gathering, freeing you up to enjoy your guests without fussing in the kitchen. It also makes for the most thoughtful and impressive homemade gift! Just bottle it up in some pretty glass jars with a festive ribbon, and you've got a present that everyone will adore. And don't forget the versatility! While many love the kick of rum, this recipe is absolutely delicious without it. I often make a non-alcoholic batch so that everyone, from kids to those who prefer not to drink, can enjoy this rich, sweet, and 'creamy brown' treat. It's still incredibly indulgent and satisfying. If you're someone who enjoys other creamy, dessert-like beverages, like a classic mudslide, you're going to fall head over heels for Coquito. It shares that luxurious, indulgent feel but brings a unique tropical twist with the coconut and a warm, inviting spice profile. The combination of 'sweetened condensed milk', 'evaporated milk', and 'coconut milk' is truly what creates that signature velvety texture that makes Coquito so irresistible. To get the best 'chocolate coquito' flavor, always opt for good quality cocoa powder or melt down some premium dark chocolate. It makes all the difference! This drink is truly a celebration in a glass. Enjoy!
