Mom guilt is one of the hardest parts of motherhood.
Not because we’re bad moms…
But because we care so deeply.
This weekend, my daughter asked if she could stay home with me instead of going to her dad’s.
Every part of me wanted to say yes.
But after more than four months without a weekend alone with my partner, I knew I needed to keep the plans we’d been looking forward to.
So I said no.
She simply smiled, said, “Okay,” and walked away.
Meanwhile…
I stood there wondering if I’d just made the wrong decision.
That’s what mom guilt does.
It convinces us that taking care of ourselves means we’re taking something away from our children.
But what if that’s not true?
What if the best thing we can give our kids isn’t a mom who’s available every second of every day…
But a mom who is rested.
A mom who’s patient.
A mom who laughs more.
A mom who isn’t running on empty.
One thing I’ve realized is this:
The guilt isn’t proof you’re failing.
It’s proof you love your children enough to question every decision you make.
The hard part is learning not to let guilt make every decision for you.
Because one day our daughters will grow up.
And I hope they know it’s okay to rest.
It’s okay to ask for help.
It’s okay to choose themselves sometimes.
Not because they love their families any less…
But because they deserve the same grace they’re so willing to give everyone else. 💚
If you needed permission to take care of yourself today…
This is it.
You matter too.
