Friends

... Read moreFriendship is often described in simple terms, but in reality, it is a complex and deeply personal experience. True friends are like stories that cannot be paraphrased easily—they have layers, histories, and emotions that define who they are beyond surface-level understanding. From my own experience, I've come to realize that some friends express themselves in ways that might be challenging to fully grasp unless you take the time to listen and appreciate their unique journeys. One of the challenges in friendship is the expectation that everyone should fit into neat categories or explanations. However, some people are born to be stories—complex, rich, and sometimes mysterious. When a friend doesn’t fit your usual understanding or seems difficult to decode, it often means they are beyond ordinary comprehension. This doesn’t mean the friendship is less valuable; rather, it’s an invitation to embrace the diversity of human nature. I recall times when I struggled to understand close friends who seemed to have layers of personality and experience that were not immediately obvious. Instead of asking them to simplify or explain their life for me, I learned to accept and celebrate their complexities. This approach strengthened our bond and deepened my appreciation of their individuality. The excerpt, “Don’t expect her to paraphrase her life for you: she was born to be a story,” perfectly captures this idea. It reminds us not to impose our need for clarity on others who are richer and more nuanced than we might anticipate. Rather, friendship flourishes when we respect each other's stories and accept the parts that are beyond our grasp. In short, genuine friendship is about embracing the whole person—even the parts that might be difficult to understand at first. It’s a journey of discovery, patience, and acceptance that enriches our lives in countless ways.
