In addition to the main glaze recipe, I like to share some tips that helped me get the best flavor and texture out of my ham. First, washing the ham before cooking helped reduce some of the surface saltiness, creating a better balance once glazed. When making the glaze, simmering the butter, brown sugar, honey, and pineapple juice slowly really enhances the sweetness and helps the glaze thicken nicely. Don’t hesitate to continuously baste the ham throughout the cooking process to keep it moist and flavorful. For the brown sugar rub, the combination of cane sugar, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika adds a savory depth that contrasts wonderfully with the sweet glaze. I find that broiling the ham for just a few minutes at the end crisps up the edges perfectly, adding a delightful texture. Also, using toothpicks to secure pineapple slices and cherries not only looks attractive but infuses the ham with a subtle fruity aroma as it cooks. This simple addition elevates the overall presentation and taste. For those mindful of nutrition, the glaze is sweet but can be adjusted with less sugar or alternative sweeteners to suit dietary needs without sacrificing flavor. Homemade glaze recipes like this one offer greater control over ingredients compared to store-bought options. Give this honey brown sugar glaze a try next time you cook ham—it’s a crowd-pleaser that's easy to prepare and brings a warm, comforting taste to the table!
