... Read moreHey everyone! It's me, Amber Kohler, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share a deeper dive into my entry for the Face of Halloween 2025 contest. You've probably seen the photo – the one with my dark hair, that striking yellow eyeshadow, and all that intricate fake blood flowing down my face and chest, as I look directly at the camera. I put so much passion into creating this look, and I wanted to tell you a bit more about the journey behind it.
Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. It’s more than just dressing up; it’s an opportunity to transform, to tell a story through makeup and costume. For this year's contest, I really wanted to create something that was both hauntingly beautiful and incredibly impactful. My inspiration came from a blend of classic horror aesthetics and a desire to add a modern, artistic twist. I envisioned a character that was both vulnerable and powerful, hence the stark contrast between the vibrant yellow eyeshadow and the ominous fake blood.
Creating the look itself was a labor of love, and honestly, a bit messy! I started with a clean canvas, focusing first on getting that yellow eyeshadow just right. It’s tricky to get such a bright color to really pop, so I used a white cream base underneath to ensure maximum pigmentation. I experimented with different shades of yellow to find one that felt intense but not cartoonish, settling on a neon-chartreuse blend that really accentuated the 'sickly glow' I was going for. Framing it with my dark hair helped to make the eyes the focal point.
Then came the blood – oh, the blood! I used a combination of theatrical blood gels and liquid blood for varying textures. The thicker gel created those gruesome drips and clots on my face, while the thinner liquid allowed for more natural-looking streaks down my chest. I carefully applied it, imagining how it would flow from a wound, paying close attention to gravity and making it appear as realistic as possible without being truly disturbing. It took a lot of practice to get that perfect balance of gore and artistry. The simple black top I chose was deliberate, it ensured that all the attention remained on the dramatic makeup and the story it told.
What I love most about Halloween makeup is the endless possibility for creativity. It’s not just about applying products; it’s about becoming a different persona for a brief moment. This specific look, with its blend of darkness and a hint of unexpected vibrancy, truly felt like me expressing my inner spooky artist.
Being a part of the Face of Halloween 2025 contest is an incredible experience. It’s a chance to share my passion with a wider audience and to see what other amazing artists are creating. Every single vote means the absolute world to me. It's not just a number; it's a validation of the hours I spend perfecting these looks and the love I pour into Halloween artistry.
