The Shocking Truth About BOTW Thunderstorms If you've played BOTW for a while, you've probably heard the whispers: metal and lightning don't mix. But it's more than just a rumor – it's a core game mechanic! When a thunderstorm rolls in, any metal equipment Link is currently holding or wearing becomes a lightning rod. If you're decked out in metal armor or wielding a shiny metal weapon, prepare for a sudden, electrifying surprise. Getting struck not only deals significant damage, potentially leading to a game over, but it also causes you to drop your weapons and shields, leaving you vulnerable. How to Survive & Thrive During Hyrule's Storms (Lessons Learned the Hard Way!): Ditch the Metal Gear ASAP! This is the number one rule. The moment you see dark clouds or hear thunder, open your inventory and unequip all metal weapons, shields, and armor. Look for that little lightning bolt icon next to an item – that means it's metal. Swap them out for wooden alternatives or non-conductive armor sets like the Rubber Armor (which grants shock resistance!) or the Zora Armor. Don't be like me, thinking you can outrun fate with a metal sword! If you don't have non-metal gear, just unequip and leave the slots empty for a bit. If you're feeling clever, you can use the lightning to your benefit. During a storm, throw a metal weapon at an enemy.
