Review | If You Give a Grump a Holiday Wishlist 🎄
Book Review:
📖 Name of the Book: If You Give a Grump a Holiday Wishlist
🎄 Plot: All Presley wanted was to have time off work to spend Christmas with her family and check items off her wishlist. Unfortunately for her, her boss Jack invites himself along because he needs her for work. What happens when Jack tells Presley’s family he’s her boyfriend and not her boss? And what happens when they have to share her childhood bedroom?
💞 Genre: Romance
💭 My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book! Although, I did feel like it was missing something. Maybe that’s because it was so short. I could have went without the spicy scenes. One would have been plenty for a book this length. I loved the Christmassy feel and it made me nostalgic as well as looking forward for Christmas!
⭐ Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 3.5/5

As someone who loves a good holiday romance, diving into 'If You Give a Grump a Holiday Wishlist' was a treat, but it also got me thinking about what truly makes these stories shine during the festive season. The 'Grumpy x Sunshine' and 'Boss x Assistant' tropes, clearly highlighted even on the book's pink holiday-themed cover by Ann Einerson, are absolute gold! There's just something inherently charming about a seemingly cold boss being unexpectedly warmed up by a cheerful, optimistic assistant. This dynamic, where Jack initially needs Presley for work but ends up pretending to be her boyfriend and sharing her childhood bedroom, is a classic for a reason. The forced proximity always leads to hilarious and heartwarming moments, perfectly capturing that holiday shenanigans vibe. If you're like me and adore these specific tropes, you might find yourself constantly on the lookout for similar reads. I often seek out stories where the characters are thrown together by circumstance – be it a snowstorm, a family gathering, or a work trip gone awry – leading to undeniable chemistry. Beyond the specific plot of 'If You Give a Grump a Holiday Wishlist,' I've found that the best holiday romances offer that perfect blend of comfort, a touch of light-hearted drama, and a guaranteed happy ending that leaves you feeling fuzzy inside. Look for stories that feature quaint, snow-covered towns, charming festive traditions, and protagonists who, against all odds, learn to embrace the spirit of the season and, more importantly, each other. One thing the original review touched upon was the book's length. Often, holiday romances are novellas or shorter reads, which can be fantastic for a quick, feel-good escape without a huge time commitment. They're perfect for curling up with a cup of hot cocoa on a chilly evening. However, as mentioned, sometimes a shorter format means certain elements, like character development or plot lines, can feel a bit rushed or that certain scenes might be more condensed. It's a trade-off, but knowing this helps manage expectations. And on the topic of 'spicy scenes,' many contemporary holiday romances now incorporate them more openly. For some readers, this adds greatly to the sizzle and chemistry, while others might prefer a more 'fade to black' approach, especially for a cozy holiday read. It's always a good idea to check content warnings if spice level is a key preference for you. What are your favorite holiday romance tropes? Do you prefer a short, sweet, and spicy read, or a longer, more detailed slow burn during the holidays? In the end, whether you're drawn to the 'Grumpy x Sunshine' dynamic, the festive setting, or just a heartwarming love story, holiday romances like 'If You Give a Grump a Holiday Wishlist' offer a delightful escape. They remind us of the magic of the season and the joy of finding love in unexpected places. Happy reading, and may your holiday season be filled with plenty of charming books!
