Imagine compressing every ocean, sea, river, lake, and underground reservoir into a single sphere. Surprisingly, its radius would be approximately 700 kilometers—significantly smaller than Europa, Jupiter’s icy moon, which has a radius of around 877 kilometers. This comparison reveals how precious and limited Earth's total water supply really is. Although water seems abundant when spread across vast oceans, when seen as a whole, it shows that water is not unlimited, underscoring the importance of conserving and protecting this vital resource. The majority of Earth’s water (about 97%) is saline ocean water, while only around 3% is freshwater, and most of that freshwater is locked in glaciers and underground. The amount of readily accessible freshwater for human consumption is even smaller, making sustainable water management essential.
